And for the sisters... What made you wear/ not choose to wear the hijab? As a Man, I feel really proud as a Mulim to see a Muslim sister wear the hijab and represent her religion despite the glances and the whispers. I have utter most respect for her and to me she would be the most beautiful woman amongst many beacause her beauty lies in her dignity.

I never used to wear the hijab before. I just didn't feel it in my heart. I knew I didn't want to wear it just for the sake of wearing it. I knew my time would come.

That day came when I was towards to train station one on my way back home from college. While I was walking I had a man follow me and stare at, while he was whispering things in my ear. I felt so awkward and then I had a thought come to my mind, who am I doing this for? Why am I not covering? At that instant I knew my time to wear the hijab had come.

I have been wearing it for 3 months now and I am extremely proud to represent my religion to the world, have people treat my the way a woman should be treated with respect and dignity. I no longer serve as eye candy. and ever since I started wearing it I have embraced Islam more then before. And am happy that im making progress towards becoming a better Muslim.

And I'm very proud of the sisters who wear it. Now instead of "hi" I can hear people say "asalamu-alaikum" to me every day. It's a good feeling.

Thank You so Much for the post.

Salam brother.
When I see another sister in hijab I get a little giddy :-P cuz where I live we are few and far between. It's a big city, and although there are alot of us here, you don't see many that much outside of the masjid.

I chose to wear hijab for a few reasons. The first was for Allah. Some may argue about the definition of hijab as explained in the Quran, but the way I see it is that it is not going to hurt me to do what I think is right. If it's not what Allah meant, then at least I'm doing something because I thought He asked me to.

I also chose hijab because it gives me so much control over what a person sees from me. They have their opinions and I can't do much about that, however they judge me by whatever I present to them. When they have nothing to see but my mind, my spirit and my heart, well that's what they have to judge me by.

It also extends my personal space because with it, men are less likely to hit on me (although some still have regardless...), people don't try to touch me aside from a handshake and kisses from sisters, and people are far less likely to ask personal questions or bring up personal issues.

It also makes me a sort of ambassador of the faith, lol. We don't always try or want to be, but when people meet us and have contact with us, they're associating our behavior and dignity with Islam; well for the most part. It also breaks tons of stereotypes when you socialize with them. They realize that there are white Muslims, that not all Muslims speak with an accent, that not all Muslims are out to kill westerners, that Muslims DO have a sense of humor, that they can be pretty nice people, ect...

There's so much to hijab besides the physical part of wearing it. I think that's what intimidates some sisters from wearing it. It certainly takes a strong sister to wear hijab in the west. Even if they seem shy, you can still bet they have a strong spirit.

Technically she would not might desire to positioned on it if she has reached puberty. even with the undeniable fact that there are some Islamic colleges in usa that require females in 2d grade and above to positioned on hijab. If she is wearing it on condition that she desires to then it won't subject what diverse human beings say. i used to be common as a terrorist via way of a few classmates on an identical time as I theory i used to be Muslim (long tale) even with the undeniable fact that purely disregarded it. Harassment is something she'll might desire to get used to for being Muslim in Europe or united statesa.. i'm the only Muslim in my enjoyed ones and my the city so i'm getting daily harassment from my enjoyed ones for my faith even with the undeniable fact that I do exactly my severe-high quality to undergo with staying power and overlook approximately what my enjoyed ones says approximately me. I realize that here 2 a million/2 years are going to be my guy or woman jihad (staying Muslim and staying real to Allah (SWT) interior the face of situation).

I am a Christian but I agree that a lady should save herself for her husband and him alone. I believe they should not show everything that have to the world, because she belongs to her husband just as her husband belongs the her. I have no problem with the hijab or Muslims in general, you must remember that we both worship the same God, but the prophets are a different.

I love to wear hijab! I am a Muslim convert, and I'm not married, so I have no husband "making" me do anything. In fact, I don't know of any Muslim woman whose husband is that controlling!

It is a way of worshipping Allah, so I am proud to wear it. When I see other sisters wearing hijab (especially here in the southern U.S.), I feel happy. There's something very special about greeting someone with "Asalaamu alaikum," knowing you are a part of the worldwide Muslim ummah.

Thank you for phrasing your appreciation so beautifully. Jazak Allah khair (May Allah reward for your kindness!)

A quick story that happened in France where they now ban the scarf from public schools.
It wasn't always so. Before that they usually ignored the smaller scarf or other wide hair band. Then one girl came to that school where a French friend of mine worked, wearing the veil. She was allowed in because they didn't want to create religious tensions for just one girl.
Then it was ten, then twenty. Surprised, my friend asked a girl she knew why she had chosen to do so. She answered that people came to her house to tell her father that if she didn't wear the veil she wasn't a good muslim but a western whore. And you know what happens to whores walking all alone...
The ban was put in place and that girl walk without a veil just she did before, putting it on only for prayers.

So to answer your question, my first thought is... has she been forced to do so?
If she chose to this is her choice of course, and I respect it

Its really great to see a Sister wear a Hijab because as you said, yes, it makes her a confident and religious individual. I, however, chose not to wear one yet because I feel Im too young.. perhaps after I marry. :)

i choose to wear hijab because:
1]Allah and our prophet told us to and i love them so much that i would obey them

2]i feel that i'm safer with hijab, safe from the eyes of other guys

3]i want to save myself just for my husband, not share my body to be stared at by whomever...

4]so i would be the best example i can for others muslims so i would encorage them to follow islam's teachings and for non-muslims so that they see how a muslim obey and love God and their prophet.......
