I had to tie this answer to an arrow and shoot it through the computer when I heard how fast you needed it OK buy him a small tool set and ask him to fix your heart I would but I'm kind of busy right now

He would be surprised in a good way. Recently I was contacted by an ex that I haven't talked to in 6 months( we didn't exactly part on good terms). But I was totally suprised and happy to hear from him. I bet your friend would be too

make up some excuse if you have to but just pick up the phone and call him. if he is excited to hear from you then great. if he acts less than excited just say that somebody needs to use the phone and you have to go.

ok ok why are we in such a hurry? First, if you guys are just friends why are you dying to call him?
If it's just to catch up, why not call him? why have doubts?
If you really like him for more than a friend, than for sure why wouldn't you wanna call him?

How often do you see him in person? Try and "accidentally bump into him" and maybe say hi or start small talk. Then call him to rekindle your friendship. Thats how I would do it.

i think you should call him. if you havent talked to him in 5 monthes, whats it gonna hurt? its not like your relationship was going to go on for longer if you don't call him. i say you've got nothing to lose!
