Its the model and options that's available. For example the XLS model is pretty much bare bones, the XLT is a mid equipped vehicle, and the Eddie Bauer edition is the luxury or fully loaded model.
The new expeditions are really nice trucks.

Just that, XLT. It's a trim level/options rating.
The F-series trucks are, from most basic to fanciest, XL, XLT, XLT Lariat, and XLT Lariat King Ranch.

It's just a name Ford came up with to give some idea that the trim level is higher than the base XL model... I've never seen any meaning around them.
