What does GOD mean by Genesis 3:16 ?

16 To the woman He said:
“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children;
Your desire shall be for your husband,
And he shall rule over you.”

Does this give the husband the right to totally control and or abuse the woman ???

"That's why the Apostle Paul clarified...and said wives are to be submissive but husbands are to LOVE their wives and treat them as Christ treated the church.

In Context...First God cursed the Snake (Satan) Then he gave Eve her "punishment" .Adam also received his "punishment" to toil in the earth."

SO WHY ARE SO MANY WOMEN NOT SUBMISSIVE AND WANT TO WEAR THE PANTS, EVEN WHEN THE HUSBAND IS DOING HIS BEST ??? (DOING HIS BIBLICAL PART)

"NO!!!!!!!!
I am a caring husband and I "rule" over her as she does me. And what is wrong with women wearing pants??? My wife looks much better and they're so much more pratical..."

SINCE THE "LIBERATION OF WOMEN" MORE AND MORE WOMEN IN MARRAIGE HAVE DECIDED THAT THEY WILL DO WHATEVER THEY CHOOSE WHENEVER THEY WANT TO. THEY WILL FOLLOW THE HUSBANDS LEAD IF IT IS CONVENIENT. ONLY A TRUE LOVING WIFE SUBMITTED TO JESUS IS CAPABLE OF FOLLOWING TRUE BIBLICAL SUBMISSION TO A MAN WHO IN TURN IS TRULY SUBMITTED TO JESUS CHRIST AS LORD.

The obvious answer from a Christian perspective is a flat NO !!!!!!!

Men and women in marriage should LOVE, NURTURE, AND RESPECT EACH OTHER.

IF the man is truly devoted and submitted to JESUS CHRIST' leadership he will then in turn do his best to be a TRUE CHRISTIAN LEADER to and for his wife.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE.

NONE

"Honestly, I don't care what your religion says. Abuse is NEVER okay. It doesn't matter which side it comes from."

APPARENTLY YOU DID NOT READ THE LAST STATEMINT THAT I MADE, SO I REPEAT IT.

A woman is to suffer through child birth with great pains, and although a woman desires her husband, he will be the head of her - in the same respect as Jesus is over His church.

No, this does not give a husband the right to abuse any woman.
-----------
Please read Eph 5:25-33

25 And you husbands must love your wives with the same love Christ showed the church. He gave up his life for her

26 to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God's word.

27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault.

28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man is actually loving himself when he loves his wife.

29 No one hates his own body but lovingly cares for it, just as Christ cares for his body, which is the church.

30 And we are his body.

31 As the Scriptures say, "A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one."

32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.

33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

God Bless You

No it does not give the husband control over the woman. Abuse is never okay to God.

The word for "sorrow" means birth pangs and sounds like the Hebrew word for "tree" which is a reminder of the source of this pain in the sin involving the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It also looks forward to the crucifixion when the curse ultimately will be hung on a tree. "Thy desire" has been variously interpreted: (1) a physical desire strong enough to compensate for the pain of childbirth; (2) her natural desire to submit to her husband's ledership; or (3) perhaps a desire "against" her husband in not being willing to submit to him beause of her fallen sinful nature.

Adam obeyed the voice of Eve and not God which was the first marital role reversal. Sorrow is the same word applied to the woman in verse 16. Thus, they shared equally in their punishment. God cursed the ground because of Adam and Adam would always have to work for his food hereafter.

The account relates privileges and responsibilities lost. And the way to the tree of life is guarded. Man's way back to life is not easy; it will be by divine intervention. Christ on the cross.

Violence in any form is not acceptable and the sex of the victim should not matter in an ideal world. However, clearly it does - you are male and are concerned with "women on men" violence. What do you think when the violence is the other way around? Remember that far more women have been victims of male violence (1/3 of the women in the world) and unfortunately they may have scars from this and see this as payback - maybe why they say these things. It is my understanding that "women on men" violence can be worse psychologically because men are so ashamed and rarely come forward to get help.

It means that her punishment for sinning by eating of the fruit of the Tree of Life is to bear children, which brings pain and agony. Her desire shall be ONLY for her husband(not the boss or BF..lol) and the husband will be the main decision maker and provider. If you think this means a husband can beat his wife, you are reading something way different from what I am reading. Thanks for the question and hope I helped. Have a good day!

No, not at all.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it... So ought men to love their wives as their owen bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man eve yet hated his own flesh: but nourisheth it and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.
Ephesians 5:25, 28,29

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers not be hindered
1 Peter 3:7

I believe this refers to a discussion, where a husband and wife can't reach an agreement, so the husband would "win". BUT
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; In other words, if needed, you should die for your wife, because you love her so much.

Nothing about "abuse" there. It just speaks of gender specific roles.

Thus paul writes, "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." 1Tim 2:12-14

Likewise Isaiah rebukes the culture of his day. " Youths oppress my people, women rule over them. O my people, your guides lead you astray; they turn you from the path." Is 3:12

Thus the woman's role is one of subordination to male authority.

Nothing about "abuse" there. Unless of course you think that parents authority over their children give them the right to "abuse" their children.

This quote is in reference to sin having entered the world. It was never God's intention for man to abuse woman. In fact it is quite the opposite. Go read the book of Ephesians, as a man is to love his wife like himself. He is to treat her as the weaker vessel, and take care of her, and love her like himself. Wife's are to love their husbands and respect them. This is only one book of the Bible that deals with this subject, there are many more verses in the New Testament.
