My first 3 cars were VWs and I never regretted it; combined they had over 500,000 miles on them.

YES! GET A VW! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

The beetles are very comfortable! The y give plenty of head and legs room. The back seat in a hard top has more leg room then the convertibles. I own a 2000 beetle and It is only meant to seat 4 but I have managed to seat 5 in there and was a little crowded but nothing unbearable. I do not recommend it though.

I love my car. My car has been great to me. Just keep up with the normal maintance jsut like any other car and you will love one too.

Plus a beetle or any European car (VW, Audi, BMW, Etc.) has to be able to with stand a crash on the Autobahn in Germany exceeding 120+ MPH and have everyone survive and be able to walk away. Also they hug the road unlike any other car you have probably ever driven. They don't allow the air to get underneath the car and push it all around.

If you got a beetle I am pretty sure you would love it!

YES! YES! YES! Volkswagens are a pleasure to drive and to own, they can be a bit expensive to fix since the parts are manufactured in Germany but get a full warranty or a great appreciation of the cars and you'll do fine! I fix my VW myself if I can to save money... The beetle is one of the top 5 best selling cars of all time--worldwide! If you haven't noticed people still drive the old 1960's beetles around and not too many other cars last that long. To get a taste of what type of car maker VW is, it might help you to know they also make Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti and other expensive cars. The Beetle is like an affordable Audi TT, they are wonderful...
Also, Volkswagen does a lot of platform sharing--but please don't think for a second a jetta is the same as a beetle, they are two different cars, also my car the Golf is built on the same platform and has never, ever let me down...

Do you mean the Classic Beetle or the new one?
I don't know much about the new Beetle, but have been told that the interior is rather cramped, especially for bigger-made people.
A well-maintained Classic is a good first car, as I found out not too long ago. It is an uncomplicated car, unlike modern cars which have too many gadgets that can become faulty.
My 1972 Super Beetle is comfortable, easy and relatively cheap to run & maintain.
If you are buying the Classic, make sure it is in good condition, especially the body, engine & brakes.
Good Luck with your choice!

remember, the vw beetle shares a platform with jettas... just read the questions people have in here about their jettas, and you can expect the same.
(for the last 8 years, the jetta has been rated as the least reliable car by jd power, consumer affiars, and consumer reports)... its going to be expensive to maintain, it only scored a 2.5 out of 5 for build quality (1999-2005), but its your money. if you dont mind the repair costs and downtime, then get it.

Beware of VW problems. Do a google on it! I have a VW Passat and have had nothing but problems. VW isn't what it use to be. If you do get one get a diesel if they come with one.
