If it's for a fundraiser of some kind, I can see why it would make sense. If it's just to go out and eat at an expensive restaurant for the the sake of the reputation of the restaurant, I think it's stupid. I've paid $50.00 for a meal before and felt it was worth every penny. I did that just to see if there was a difference in the food as opposed to going somewhere else like a regular steak house. There is no way I would go out to eat and pay thousands of dollars for a plate of food. What is she having? diamond encrusted salmon?

Sounds like it's a fundraiser dinner, to me. An evening with food, and speeches, and the money going for some cause. Maybe political, or some charity. If your Mom can afford it, that's nice.

Your waiter would confront the manager about this matter. The manager would probably ask you if anybody could bring you the money or if you could leave something as collateral. Most likely you would not be charged with anything or even have the police called. The manager or another customer would pay for your meal and let it slide.

Heck no, thats crazy! I have no idea why people do that. Are they giving that money to charity? If not, shoot, they could feed so many homeless and poor people with that money.

Its a shame what people spend their money on these days when there's people out here who dont even know where their next meal is coming from or if they'll ever have another meal.

If your mother is planning on spending 2k for a dinner, than the money is NOT going towards the food. Perhaps it's a fund-raising dinner. I think you need to ask her.

The $2,000 is a donation to an organization. Say, if your mom wanted to see Obama she could go to a "dinner" where he was the speaker. The money would be going towards his presidential election.
Many not-for-profit organizations and politicians earn support money this way.

Is this a fundraising dinner? For charity or for a politician perhaps?

Then, the money goes not only for the dinner but for the "cause."
Often, it is considered a tax write-off.

A wealthy playgirl-millionaire like your mom should have no problems with that. Maybe it's a charity dinner for the rights of the ultra-elite?

That is stupid, those expensive restaurants give little food for so much money, when there are way cheaper restaurants with more food for way less. That is ridiculous and just a scam, tell your mother to go give that money to a charity.

Is your mother going to spend YOUR money?

If not, it's none of your concern.

After all, as an adult, she has the right to do with her own money as she likes.

Would you want your children telling you how to spend your money?
