There is no such thing as a "teacup" in any breed. It's a notorious scam. Unfortunately there are backyard breeders who are breeding small dogs to smaller dogs to produce what they can claim to be "teacups" so they can attract buyers with the idea that they have something "special". This is an unscrupulous practice because responsible breeders breed to preserve & improve a breed as described
in a written standard. Breeding to emphasize a single characteristic (i.e. smallness of size) compromises the integrity of EVERY OTHER characteristic and the result is an unsound, incorrect dog. These dogs are very fragile and unheathy and a type that no responsible breeder would breed! All, in all the practice of breeding so-called "teacups" or "minis" is a dangerous corruption of the breed .Please don't get ripped off by puppymillers.

There is no such thing as a teacup Maltese.
they shouldn't be any more expensive than any other Maltese since they only Maltese.A Maltese according to AKC should not be over 7 pounds and 4-6 is preferred.
If its smaller than it's simply a runt and often may have additional health problems.
These really small dogs often have low blood sugar drops which can cause seizures and even death if not kept under control they are also known for water on the brain.

there is no such thing as a "teacup" anything. Maltese only come in one size. "Teacup" is a label used by back yard breeders and puppy mills to insinuate that the dog will be smaller than standard. Often "teacup" puppys are runty and unhealthy.

I have never had a maltese, but I hear they make wonderful companions.

Crate training and lots of positive reinforcement is the best way to housebreak any dog.

Hey no such thing as a "teacup". A responsible breeder tries to breed to the standard. This breeder is probably breeding the runts. Runts to runts. Not a healthy combination and not a responsible breeder. He's out to make money from people that don't know any better. Don't be one of those people that puts more cash in this backyard breeders pocket.

The only reason to breed is for the betterment of the breed. Is he doing that? No. His poor dogs are most likely being bred every time they are in heat. He doesn't care about his dogs. He's breeding them as a cash crop. To people like that I say GET A REAL JOB. There are too many dogs in the world being put down in shelters because there are not enough homes. Please don't buy from these backyard breeders. Go to a shelter and save a dog.

NO. These are "puppy mill"
dogs and they have lots of problems

They come from places like this

http://www.prisonersofgreed.org

and then are sold through pet stores, websites that ship puppies, and classifieds

Instead, go to http://www.petfinder.com and you will find WONDERFUL dogs to adopt, and also breed rescue groups that you can contact for advice or referrals

But the teacups are a fad now, and these puppy mills are breeding sick, horribly defective puppies that they sell for anywhere from 50- thousands of dollars. Total rip off!
