What I think is that there is something in our mind that tells us that something bad is happening and that most people at some level worry themselves to death. I think that we connect pain to our fears.

When you think about what God ultimately wants to do for us where is the bad that we think that is happening to us?

Sometimes pain means that something good is happening
'Then the LORD said to Satan,
"Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?" (Job 1 : 8)'

pain is an indicator of something that is happening to you, do you think a God or love wants us to be in pain? I don't think so, pain & suffering was brought on by the sin of one man (Romans 5:12) 12 That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned—.

before he sinned they lived in a paradise free from all pain & suffering

Some will always equate pain with punishment-Katrina, tsunami, some say, "punishment." What if nobody displeased God and there was no pain. What would we do with ourselves. Just think about it. Every thing we do is in the solving of a problem. Without problems, there is no purpose.

Mind over matter! We control the concept of what's terrible in our lives. For Paris, I'm sure it's been excruciating to be showering on a cement floor. For some, they come through child abuse, yet go on to have productive, successful lives. What lies ahead in hell would be far worse than anything we experience here on earth. I'd rather live like there's a hell, and find out there's not than live like there's not, and find out there is!

Pain is usually a sign of injury or disease. It is the manner in which our body tells us that something is not working right. Even a believer dreads the thought of his or her own death...and it is that idea that people fear. Not what comes after death...but the method of death.

I'm guessing that you meant pain other than physical. Everyone is going to go through painful times, and it usually helps us grow spiritually.

The holy spirit can speak to us and if we are in conflict with God we will feel pain.

the first, we have nerves. something bad is happening.
the second, pain is a guarantee in life. faith or not

your question is a bit confusing
