My sister had one and she is giving me hers i don't know whether to sell it or ride for a couple years. Its a pretty good mountain bike but i don't really know im just starting to ride

Take it and yourself to a bike shop. Ask for a fitting. If it is anywhere near your size they should be able to get you comfortable on it. If it is not sell it and get the right size. Gary Fischer is a good brand.
Women regularly get fitted to men's bikes. Mountain bikes are quite adaptable for sizing.
If it fits ride it.

I don't think it's a girls bike. What matters is if it fits you or not. If your sister is of a similar height as you, probably you could use it. I would just ride it.
