(I treated meself on my 42nd to some ground starbucks, and noticed she got the bag amongst other 'decaf' bags. And the label had decaf crossed out. Then i asked her and she said, it was regular and yada yada yada. I get up at 3:45am thus its significant :).

Hello BB. I'm trying to figure out why you asked this question and how I should answer it. First of all, if you purchased the coffee yourself, you should know because it is marked clearly on the label of the can or bag whether it is decaf. If you buy a cup of coffee in a drive in or restaurant, and ask for decaf, You would hope that the person giving you the coffee would give you what you ask for. There used to be a time when the only decaf coffee available was Sanka and it was simple to tell the difference between regular and decaf because the decaf had a powdery, funny kind of taste. Now when the coffee is brewed fresh, it think it is next to impossible to tell the difference between the two. So I would say, test the coffee when you are tired or dragging. If the coffee gives you a burst of energy, it is regular, but if you are as tired after drinking the coffee, as you were before, it is most likely decaf. Having said all that, there are exceptions to the rule. My husband can drink 10 cups of coffee at bedtime and still fall asleep the second his head hits the pillow. LOL.

I know what you mean. Where I used to work people would bag regular and decaf in ziploc bags and throw it in the wrong box. The way I tried to tell if it was real coffee was that real coffee is slightly more bitter smelling. The real test is tasting it. I hate decaf and can tell if the caffeine is missing - sort of tastes blah to me.
