How many lakes are there in the lake district?

This is for my little sisters homework and as the title suggests, the simple fact would be apprectiated.

This is a trick question and the correct answer is ONE.
Bassenthwaite lake is the only "lake". All the rest are either waters or mere's. Lake Windermere is a mere, as is Buttermere etc.
Conniston water, Derwent water, Wast water etc are as the names suggests "waters".

It could be a trick question, in which case the answer is, there is only one - Bassenthwaite Lake. None of the other lakes have lake in their name!
