i am a religious person, i tend to beleive things more related to life than chasing a 'dream'of reward after death. i do not believe in any god. i beleive we as men can and need to do good in this world. Caring for yourself, others and nature and taking care of yourself, others and nature.

As a rationalist, how can I take seriously belief in a divine power or a book written thousands of years ago? That plus the destructive things that religion has done over the years. Then again, religion has also been a great source of good in the world, and I am proud to be Jewish (but of the Reform persuasion -- the least religious one).

If you mean religious as in ritualistic, then I am not religious because I don't believe in rituals for the sake of rituals or traditions for the sake of traditions. If you are going to do something, do it because you want to - not because you think you should. If you mean religious as in having faith in God and practicing your faith, then I would have to ask you why you would assume that I am not? I am a Christian who has a strong faith and I try my best to be an example of Christ's love to those around me. I do my best to live a right life and grow in my faith and relationship with God. It is not for someone who doesn't even know me, to assume I am not religious. I am a tad bit confused by your question. Perhaps you are not making assumptions, but merely asking those who are NOT religious, why they are not so.

Because I am a spiritual person on a path to find the truth on my own. I don't live according to a book. Organized services seem to cater to those who are in need of a social network. I prefer to search for the answers, not have them spoon fed to me by another mere mortal.

Everyone on here is religious. If they say otherwise, they are ignorant to what religion is. Look it up and then examine your lives for those of you who claim you are not religious, and you will see very many things you do and say religiously.

When you spend the majority of your life thinking "god" is looking down on you and then you have your faith ripped out of you because an event in your life is both unexplainable and soul destroying, then one begins to question your faith and it becomes obvious it was just a big lie.

There's no reason for me to be. I'm quite content to live my life as is. I'm a good person, I try to do the right thing. I don't harm others, I cheer for the underdog. I don't need a book to guide me, I need only common sense.

I am but I don't believe in what everyone else believes, I don't believe god wants us to use up our time on beliefs and so we should just use them as a part of out lives, and not let them be most of our life.

I just don't feel like if I need religion in my life. I don't like to be told what to do, what to believe and how to think. It's also just the way I was raised.
