Identifying points of a cult:
1) They usually have a single powerful human leader who
becomes the group's messiah.
2) The cult leader's word or the teachings of the cult become
absolute truth, overshadowing the teachings of the
Scriptures.
3) Each cult uses "pressure" tactics to coerce its members
into submission
4) Cults regularly appeal to miracles as a sign of their
"divine credentials."
5) Cults often urge these "converts" to leave their families.

You know because you join. Just like if you joined a church, a gang or a social club.
It's not something you wake up and say "Hey I'm in a cult? I had no idea!" Those people become like your family and they want you to be faithful to them- willing to die for what they believe or what they want to do.
You know because cults make sure you know their views and whats going down if you're in their group. So you 'll be told and made sure you know so you won't go doing stuff that isn't pleasing to them.

And no, I'm not in a cult, I just know a little something about them.

If any faith doesnt teach the teachings all of them of Jesus, this is a cult. There are some organized religions today that are still a cult, as they dont preach the teachings of Jesus. The Bible warns us all about it. If your faith teaches something contrary to the word of God, then it is a cult. Read about it in second John.

Faith plus something else for salvation = Cult

The Bible plus something else for source of truth = Cult (generally an extra revelation that is not part of the Cannon )

Good rules of thumb. That eliminates most of them. It's the "something else" that you need to worry about.

I was in one..raised in one. They don't call themselves a cult of course and would deny that they are. But, when you start doubting and having questions about what you have been taught about the bible and you want to research but they discourage that..they don't want you to dig into the background and research ..They , the authority figure or figures make the "rules"..and if you don't follow them you are shunned and no one able to speak a word to you..until they think you have repented..Its a long , long story and there are so many things that I could talk about, but to make a long story short..I did my research..and when I realized that what I so firmly believed in , wasn't the right Bible teachings..I felt sucker punched. I also, felt like I was betraying God when I left...and it took a long , long time of prayer and Bible reading and research to get peace with myself..Now my relationship with God is true pure and beautiful..Its true what the bible says...The truth shall set you free...

If your told that one man has a closer relationship with God than you do. Listen to him to get spiritual enlightenment.
He doesn't direct you to the bible to learn about God but says let me tell you about what God wants. Like he has this inside line. His meetings are not open to the public but private only for his friends? He is being worshipped by others in the group. ONce in you can't get out. You notice bad sexual things are happening to some of the others or to you.
Most religions are easy to leave and visit family and old friends. Are you asked to live in a commune where you can all be together. run that is a cult.
Usually a man wanting multiple wives or concubines and sex with young women. All things that are satanic.
