I am getting conflicting advise between the first dentist and an other second opinion. Is it best to fit the dentures immediatley following the teeth extraction or to wait 4 to 6 weeks and fit the dentures to healed gums?

it doesn't really make a big difference its just that the denture will be lying on open wounds if its fitted straight away. it depends on which teeth have to be extracted. if the teeth being extracted are the only ones you have left to chew and bite, your dentist will probably remove the teeth and fit your denture as you can't be waiting weeks without any teeth. I'm working as a dental nurse so i see this thing most days. it's up to yourself in the end.

Here's a third dental opinion!
With an immediate denture you are never without teeth so you don't look funny going without and you don't have to gum your food for two months. Also, the Dr. can better tell where the back teeth should be set for your bite. However, you really can't see what the immediate will look like before the extractions take place so there's that disadvantaqe. The Dr. also has to guess where the gums are going to be after the surgery so the denture may fit well or it may fit poorly as no one can tell acurately what will take place at the surgery apt. The denture may need to be relined imediately in order to fit and will surely need to be relined again in a few months after the gums/bone have healed. In a worse case scenario the denture will need to be remade. In my office we include one reline in the initial cost of the immediate denture but other relines and a new denture, if needed, are certainly borne by the patient.
The advantages to having the extractions and then waiting is that you can try the denture in as a wax-up and see how you look. Adjustments in aesthetics can be made at that time. Since the gums have intially healed the fit of the final prosthesis will be good. However, the denture will still probably need to be relined in a few months as the bone continues to remold itself. Of course, the main disadvantage is you have nothing to chew with while the healing takes place and you look sort of funny when you smile.
Sooo, with the above intormation, it's up to you to choose. Good luck!

Immediately after the teeth are extracted so while your gums are healing they will conform to the denture. Also will get used to wearing them much faster. But have a lot of ice cream and soap handy to eat. Mainly ice cream because the cold will sooth the gums.
I'd recommend Affordable Dentures. They are nation wide. And they do not try to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need done: Very business like and Professional. Their toll free number I believe is:
1-800-denture or in numbers 1-800-336-8973.
You can afford them on military pay as well.

either way is fine, my mom did it immediately and my brother waited, I would say do it immediately because you are already going to be uncomfortable so this way you only go through that one time. But it is up to you.
