In Regards to:

The native Americans worship the Great Spirit, the spirits of their ancestors and the Earth and I don't believe they have a written book. But then again, you probably wouldn't consider theirs a "great religion".

Excellent Point. Actually I am Native American, I would call it the greatest religion. Though it wouldnt consider it organized, in the same sense as say christianity or islam. It is not about "Worshiping the Earth" It is a way of life. more than a religion, it is all encompassing and is centered around keeping harmony with all around you, with man, spirit and nature. There are several different "Native American Religions" There are hundreds of Tribes throughout the US and Canada and not all share the same "Religious Tradition" though they do in essence have similarities and common themes. Thanks for you answer its a great point.

I don't know that all religions need a man made book.

I am spiritual and believe in God, but I think "organized" religion is one of the main problems facing mankind today.

The answer's right there in your question. Man makes religions and man makes books, and religions serve the interests of men. Who the men whose interests are served may vary from religion to religion according to who's in control.
All this stuff about god giving man the bible. Even people who believe that will say such and such a word was mistranslated in some version, or some version is not a good translation. If god is in control, there should NEVER be any question as to the validity of any of the text. That there is simply PROVES that the bible is not an infallible record of the word of god.

I think it's to record "what we know so far" from God and experiences so we don't waste time running in circles. There's already so much we don't understand, it's good to have a reference to point us in the right direction for the answers to new questions. With out a word to ground us, there would be many disagreements and we wouldn't know how to look for the truth. The Bible gives a lot of direction on morals, love, prayer, and God's character. More info is always a good thing (assuming it's true).

Well that depends on what you mean by "great religion." If you mean most populated the answer is because no one is original enough to convert masses of people just by their own word of mouth. Even Joseph Smith needed a book to become "legitimate"- they are easily circulated and pursuasive if written correctly.

If you're frustrated, come be a Unitarian Universalist or look into other alternative religions. Chances are there is one out there that fits your needs. Good luck on your journey!

The Bible is the writing that God told the men to write. He showed them and told them what should be written and if we don't have a book how can we know what the commandments are? Just like people write down the law, that's why we have books that man wrote but God is the author of!Just as if you were a descendant of someone maybe 100 years ago and you've heard a story that was passed down from generation to generation and you write it down.

The question is, "why they need those books?" If they weren't then the religions would collapse.

Those books are specifically written to control these bunch of ignorant people and keep them "organised".

All religions are based on lies, and scripture written out of ignorance of reality... by dumb farmers and shepherds, 4000 years ago.

The prime basis of organised religion is to follow their dogma without questioning a thing about it.

Hence they love to be mindless puppets.

I think that it's because information is passed on from one generation to the next. It's the best way to keep a teaching going.

The Bible is not made by man, it was made by God, which God told man and man wrote.
