I have a 2003 Taurus that is misfiring. I got two codes:

Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

Misfire Detected 1st 1000 Revs

I do not know what to make of the second error. I am going to check the plug and wire but I suspect it is the ignition coil, which I had to replace a few years back. Any suggestions?

From what you have explained, you do have a cylinder 1 misfire. I can say that you do not have a failure in the ignition coil. You Taurus has a coil pack, all the plug wires plug into it. if it was a failed ignition coil, you would have a no start concern or a misfire also on the companion cylinder. Cylinder 1 in on the right hand side of the engine. The plug wire for that cylinder runs under the throttle body, over to the back side of the engine and to the cylinder. There are plug wire retaining clips that have been know to break and cause the plug wire to lay aginst the EGR tube and burn the plug wire. Look there first. Next replace your spark plugs. That should clear up your misfire concern.

The coil is not going to be the cause if it was many cylinders would give the error, change the rotor and distributor cap if checking the wire and the plug does not resolve the problem

If the car has a steady misfire, it would be the coil, for that year its isn't worth a damn.
