Me and my friend were wondering why there aren't regulare baked beans without the baked. Why do they call them baked beans if most aren't really baked, they're cooked on the stove? This may be a blonde moment, but I need to know!!!

the original baked bean recipes were baked. usually in a dutch oven or large bean pot in the back of the fireplace (colonial times) or even in the oven itself during other baking. since beans are a slow cook type thing as a rule the non oven variations were probably the most economical or easy way to cook them-- now days a slow cooker pretty much can do the same thing.
there are lots of recipes and you can use almost any kind of bean- so if you like the things try experimenting the different varities

They're baked before being put into jars or cans. Ask the dog on the Bush's bean's commercial....he talks.

The real deal Baked Beans come from the UK, although until 1928, Britain actually imported them from Canada

My recipe calls for them to be baked at 300F for 6 hours.???

First the beans (navy) are grown, picked, processed and dried. Then they are soaked drained and various spices and other ingredients are added and then baked. Hence the term baked beans.
