I have windows XP on all but one of my computers, and I have Vista on one of my laptops. I've played around on Vista, and it feels like being placed in a shiny rubber room, with pretty lights that don't do any specific function. The only feature I like about it is being able to see what’s going on when I hover my mouse over a minimized window.
Other then that it’s only purpose seems to mesmerize people with its child like ornament’s it seems like vista is trying to limit me in what I can do on my computer, plus all it’s pretty decorations take up lots of memory. It’s kinda like Microsoft said: “Hey this core two duo processor is WAYY!@! TOO FAST#!! Lets SLOW TH*NGS DOWN with VISTA!” Ahhh… that’s more like it, says Bill Gates. It feels like I’m on an Icky mac.
So would you please explain what makes vista so good? Or feel free to elaborate further on why it sucks. I mean what can you do on vista that you can’t apply to XP using some kind of appearance mod.

hmm another reason to hate vista built in drm... Now you have to try just a tiny bit harder to get limewire to work. "Oh Noes!!!"
Oh hey btw Mr. I get no blue screens with vista.... I just wanna say i've never gotten a virus (that wasn't deleated in minutes) or even a blue screen with XP, but I guess it just depends on what kinda tools you got ;)

i know notthing good of vista, i even compare it to the Windows ME edition for it has lots of bugs still, and back doors for virus to get in, it is a space HOG! and those widgets definatly dont help out, it is very graphical so therefore it uses up way to much hard drive space for a O/S and getting Vista onto a network is near impossible because it is hit or miss. Also the fact is you need 1 GIG of memory now to run even the simplist application like MS Paint or their word 2007's Spellchecker, it is rediculous and i personally dont see it as user friendly for the average user either it can be very confusing at times so over all in my opinion it is a DUD

Been running Vista Home Pro on two computers for about 4 months. Here is what I've found. Vista is way more stable the XP, IE, no blue screens, no frozen screens. It's much faster then XP, and it's much more secure. There is some tweaking that needs to be done, but no were near as much as XP. I really like it.

So if your laptop is running slow, it just needs some cleaning up. The first thing to get rid of it the "User Controls".

Yes, it is a bit pretty, but that can be turned off too. But, after all, it is just an operating system, and not an appliaction. It runs all of my high end software way better then XP.

I have XP loaded on one of my machines to that I can do a little research for some of the questions on this forum.

Pros: Direct x 10 capability for gamers Secure for people who have little knowledge of spyware threats and malicious programs Looks better, interface is fully customizable. Option to secure all your data with BitLocker so if your laptop gets lost no one can steal your information Searching is much more improved and finding files is quicker and easier than xp You have many built in diagnostics so that if something does go wrong its less likely you will need to phone a technician You can add more RAM by simply attaching a USB memory stick as apposed to opening your computer Cons Specification hungry, it requires much more updated hardware and the use of the hardware is sometimes less than it would be on XP Old hardware, USB devices and printers can sometimes not be compatible with vista and manufacturers are hesitant on creating drivers and software for vista. If your buying a laptop Vista can easily eat up your battery power with the amount of processing required to run the interface (although you can configure the vista to act differently tho this can be seen as an advanced task) User Accounts are perhaps too secure, and the constant bombardment of vista asking you to confirm everything you do can be annoying although this can be disabled it creates a security risk. Some software is still not fully compatible with vista The list goes on but there are a few, why not buy with vista and then think about downgrading if you hate it. The way i see it is soon most of PC users will have vista so compatibility will only rise. Also most new computers have hardware in them that are not backwards compatible. I.e. will not work on XP so be weary Hope this helps

First off, and straightaway, so few people have only an inkling of what's going on in 95 & 98, let alone Win XP - and along comes Vista, aka Longhorn! For the vast, vast majority of people Vista continues the ongoing trend of making appliance operators vs computer users. For what Vista can do that XP can't applies to about 1/100 of 1% of the computing public. If you have XP, stick with it; it'll be around for some time - long enough to get all the insects out of Vista.

Vista is just the same as XP, but more bloat.

Also, Vista has DRM built into it, which limits access to your own files, and will make it harder to do things like watch DVDs and listen to CDs on your PC.

VistAIDS should be avoided at all costs.
