Yes, they are great for building stamina, improving your cardiovascular strength, and burning calories. But before you sign up for a class, you need to find out if the class is Muay Thai kickboxing or Cardio Karate.
If it's Muay Thai, this is actually a martial art, not an exercise class. You'll be training and rising in rank and expected to work hard and use discipline and self control and honor your instructors as you work to gain their respect in your abilities.
If it is Cardio Karate or Fitness Kickboxing, this is strictly an exercise program. Both are licensed by the National Association of Professional Martial Artists (NAPMA -- http://www.napma.com ) and, while the moves are based on martial arts techniques and can be used in a pinch, the classes are strictly for toning and improving endurance.

Any type of excercise is my advice be as active as possible run, jog, dance, swim, skate and all the sports and count how much weight you loose or buy an ablouge those things are magic

yupp anytype of excersize is, if u wanna lose weight dont EVER go on a diet. it actually makes you gain pounds..just jog go to the gym and kick box =P

yes, I've recently started my boxing training (2 weeks) and I can see the difference. But there are more to it than just exercise, you have to eat healthy also.
