I'm a 20 yo male not in the best health. I have a lot of heart problems and have had many surgeries. I also have a pacemaker (machine to help my heart beat). I've been told I'll have more surgery in the future. I'm starting to get depressed, I'm tired of all the doctors and the surgeries, there is no real cure for my problems, I just have to keep seeing doctors about it all my life. How do I become happy? I've had these problems since birth. I worry about my health all the time and I'm concerned my problems will get worse and I'll die young. What should I do?

I'm very sorry for all your suffering. I understand you completely. Well I think the only way can help us to all when we suffer is: LOVE. Why don't you get a girlfriend, this would be very helpful in your life, this will give you the strength to still go ahead with all this. If you don't want to have a girlfriend now, then try to give and received love from anyone you feel like it. You can read some good spiritual books too. Not the bible. I mean something that you really can understand easily. I hope you are always OK. I wish the Best.

Let me start by saying I'm sorry about your health and that what you are going through is not fair... Life isn't fair that's a reality... However, instead of feeling sorry for yourself which is easier said than done... Maybe, it's time to seek some mental health to talk to someone impartial about how youare feeling/why. It's easy for me to say "Hey live life like you were dying and get over it" I'm not sick... I would seek the help of a professional to get over the "hump". I'm sure there are things you would rather do that be worried about dying all the time...
I suggest if you can find the story about the Hoyt triathelete(sp) team that might be of some inspiration to you. In short it's better to live life now with no regrets. Good luck and I hope that you can find some sort of happiness

My sympathies. I have the same kinda problems. I'm sure you are tired of the countless hospital visits and stays, the endless medication and checkups. I feel that way too. But you know what? Don't worry about what you don't have control over. It takes a lot of patience to go through what you are going through. Try to fill your life with other things and live as normally as possible.

When I was told I would probably die, I changed the focus from ME. I was sad because I felt like I hadn't done much to change the world. There was so much I hadn't done and would never do. That was heartbreaking to a dreamer like me. I wasn't going to be remembered. I decided to live my life each day thinking of others and how I could help them, even in my situation. I give of myself tirelessly and I have never been happier. I don't have time to wallow in the misery of my illness. Trust me, the endless needles and medications and surgeries will be easier to bear if you are thinking about getting better so you can get back to living and loving and serving.

It helps make my time in the hospital easier, and gives me more to live for, to know that there are people that need me and love me and whose lives I can improve by giving what I have.

Dear depressed !!
I know its hard to see nothing good in your life right now I have been there myself. I am a cancer surviver .You are young and every day they come up with new knowledge.
I'm not saying its easy to deal with problems that seem not to have a light at the end of tunnel . Hold on tightly ok! keep putting your feelings out there.I kept a diary when I was down it helped me so much.Live your life to the fullest you can and just hold in there ok ! Never ever give up .Positive thinking does wonders.
