My dog is fine with the people in my family and people he's known for a long time (he's 2 years old), but when he meets new people he often gets very territorial and bites them. How can I discourage this behavior?

Ok my dog has the same problem and he is 3 yrs old. Its going to be hard but u have to show ur dog that ur the pack leader and that u r his boss and not the other way around. Also I took my dog (even though he had already gone) to obedience classes and it helped! Just make sure he knows that ur the boss!

I suggest not discouraging it, don't let him bite people but barking when he sees someone he doesn't know is OK. Your dog is trying to protect you and your family!

dog training class. but usually you have to teach them that type of stuff when they are very young and sometimes it depends on the breed.
