Airline Rules for a first time traveler to NYC?

Hi......i'll will be going to NYC to live this fall cause i will be going to college i don't know the rules and stuff about what to bring on the airport and what not to put in your luggage it will be my first time in the US i live in the caribbean (NEVIS)......i want to make my luggage noticeable so it won't get lost or i cant find it when i arrive cause i heard that theys alot of lost luggage in NYC so what color should i get and which color not to get .....so if u have any website about these rules please let me know thanks in advance XOXOXOXO

also i have a hp deskjet 3535 printer and i want to take it with me cause i can't afford a new one it the small one how can i take it along with me how can i pack it

Get a TSA approved lock for your bags. Then if the TSA inspect your bag they can unlock and relock it. If the lock is not an approved one, they will break the lock!

Lost luggage is generally not about the colour of the bag....it just sometimes ends up being left behind or wrongly loaded. Make sure you put a tag on the outside with a contact phone number. And inside, on top of the stuff, put a piece of paper with your phone number and contact details. If the bag gets lost without it's airline tags, they can then trace you. But be careful if you use an address on the outside of the bag. There have been cases where criminals have noted the details of individuals standing at check-in then gone to the address to steal stuff, assuming no-one is home to catch them.

If you want the bag to stand out, get yellow or bright pink...I can't remember seeing many bags these colours on my many trips. Don't get black, dark blue....loads of bags like that!

I tie a bright colored ribbon on my luggage handles. that way I can find them very easy. Pack your printer in a safe box and ship it before you leave on your trip. Try UPS or regular post office. Pack lotions like shampoo and toothpaste, mouth wash, etc in your checked bags. You can only take 3 oz bottles in a see thru 1 quart plastic bag on board in your carryon.
