I live in Northwest Florida. I'm very interested in getting a great dane, puppy or adult. I've researched the breed and looked at local rescue groups. I don't know where else to look. By the way, I don't want to buy from a pet store. Any Ideas?

Be patient. Keep checking the rescue sites. If nothing is available now, try again next week. Don't give up. I'm glad you're not buying from a pet store as they usually come from puppy mills, people who breed only for the money and not for the love of the breed.

There are some very good rescue groups down in your area. I would contact them and also contact the GDCA for listings of responsible, ethical breeders in your area. It would also be helpful if you attended some shows in your area. Go to the AKC site or to Infodog to find dates of shows near you.

I also recommend that you get the book The Great Dane Model of Nobility by Jill Swedlow.

Try some local breeders at http://www.akc.org Sometimes breeders will place their champions into good homes. Or you could try http://petfinder.com All the best;^)
