If your dog follows the general growth pattern of most small-breed dogs, your baby should be between 3 and 4 pounds. I would be surprised if he/she stayed under 3 pounds, and it is very likely that it will have a growth spurt that brings up his weight to 5 or 6 pounds.

The best indications of how big your dog will be is the advice of the breeder. But that is only if your breeder is reputable, and it sounds like yours is not. A reputable breeder will have studied his/her lines and be experienced with the size of puppies that his/her breeding dogs throw. No breeder will guarantee size of puppies, as yours did, but they will have a very good idea of the size your dog will attain.

Breeders who try to guarantee a pups size as an adult is just lying to you, because there is no way to know for sure how big your puppiy will be. I think your puppy will probably be about 4-4.5 when grown. I had a chi pup that weighed 8 oz at 9 weeks and she is now 3.5.

Some breeder starve the parents to keep them small, then starve the puppies to keep them small and sell them as "teacups". Believe me I have seen it with some really nad chi breeders.

My chihuahua was about 1 pound when I got her at 9 - 10 weeks old. She is now about 8 lbs. (she's about 1/2 pound over weight) I doubt yours will be a 3 lbs if she is already over 1.

Did you see her parents? How big were they? 3 lbs chihuahuas are tea cups - both parents would need to be tea cups for yours to be that small.

Email me if you have any questions. I love my chihuahua!

more than likely but they can always have an unexpected growht spurt.
There is no way a breeder can guarantee the size but there are growth charts for chihuahuas and they are fairly good but as I said occassionally something seems to happen.
The only way you can be fairly sure is to get on that is 6 months or older.

I believe the breeder is incorrect. happens a lot with byb's. & really your dog will be healthier if it does get above 3#'s so that would be a good thing
