I'm just wondering people's opinions.

When you eat out, how much does the appearance of the server make you want to tip. Of course, keep in mind the service was excellent.

Say you go into a restuarant, each week. Each week, you order the same food, get the same drinks and have the same WONDERFUL services.

One week, plain jane is your server. Again, she provides great service, but is a little less attractive. She's short and overweight. Her hair is neat, but just not attractive. She's got no makeup on and her features are a bit sharp. She's not someone you would find cute or attractive, but she's nice and gives good service.

The next week, you receive the same WONDERFUL service, this time by a very attractive young girl. She's got nice, well groomed blonde hair, flattering makeup, she's tall and lean.

How do you react to each server. If you're bill is $30, would you leave server A $5, but maybe give server B $6

Remember, the service was WONDERFUL, both times. You had no complaints, they both did there job to 110% equally.

This is just on appearance. Because, again service was wonderful.

How do you perceive attractive servers vs. non attractive servers, who each give excellent service.

i would tip the same... it is the service that matters
*i was a server at a restaurant who usually had the cutesier skinny girls.... i however am over weight and a mom of 2 i don't think I'm unattractive ~ but anywho... the tips were definitely segregated ~ i had been told by many how great of service i had and by the mgmt and other servers... but i always managed to bring home about 20-30% less than the others... so unfortunately it is a common thing**

Are you there to enjoy a nice meal, or are you there to ogle the female help?

If both servers provide excellent service, it's odd that you're returning their efforts with silent judgement of their appearance.

You have no idea what server A is going through. Though she's overweight, perhaps she's exercising at home. Perhaps her skin is allergic to cosmetics. Whatever the case, it's really not your concern. You stated she's "nice and gives good service"; for you to be concerned with her personal characteristics is, frankly, a little shallow and mean-spirited.

I was taught to realize that every single person I encounter has a different life than mine -- a different past, a different upbringing, and a different present. If someone is insane, something awful made them that way. If someone is grossly overweight, they have issues I can't even begin to grasp. If someone is........ well, you get the point. When we encounter strangers, it's kind of like watching a film -- we see them as they currently are, but have no clue to what their lives have been up to that point.

I wish people would be more benevolent and give people credit for doing just what they're doing -- dealing with life as best as they can.

I mean no rudeness, but if the wait staff's appearance is notably important to you, you should frequent restaurants that employ only the attractive.

Finally, as to your question -- if I receive excellent service, I give more than a 15% gratuity. That's the norm for competent service. Superior service earns 20-30%. And my tipping is based solely on the efforts expended, but whereas appearance is important to you, personality is a more worthwhile/interesting quality. Since you specified that server A was nice, but server B received only mention of her appearance, it sounds like server A was more pleasant to be around, so I would probably tip her more. I've encountered plenty of attractive servers who weren't engaging or friendly at all.

I tip according to the service I get, not the servers appearance.
If the service was great for both I would have left $6 each time

a person has little choice of whether you find them attractive or not. If the server was unclean looking or just plain nasty looking, then yes you tip less. If both are clean and give good service, then they deserve same tip. I been in restaurant business for many many years, and cleanliness is what customers want out of service.

Anyone from New Jersey knows the state is famous for it's diners. Well, one day I went to one after having a particularly bad day. I was still living at home at the time, about 20 years old and going to college while working.

That day, I had a dreadful day at college. I was taking COBOL and the computer crashed on my program and I had to diagnose the damn thing in hexadecimal. I got in an argument with a boss who was dumb as a box of rocks. To top it all off I had a falling out with my family, and an argument with a girlfriend...as I said, it was a heck of a day.

It was also cold as the ninth level outside, and after some car trouble I was ready to just start yelling. I was hungry as all get-out and I didn't ant to go home and try to eat while continuing the argument with my family. So I went to a diner.

I must have looked like I was in a foul mood, but from the start, the waitress said: "Let's get you out of that coat, hon. You need to warm up on a night like tonight." She was an older woman, late fifties at least, and to this day I can remember that her hair was dyed red. She was so friendly and helpful, that after a good meal and having a positive person around, my day wasn't so bad anymore.

I left a tip that was bigger than the bill.

To me, you can find "attractive" anywhere. People who are physically attractive are as common as stones. But the people who have good hearts? That sort of "attractive" is much more rare, much more valuable, and much more important.

I would tip the same.

Though, I do think that a lot of people may be inclined to give the attractive server a little more. They probably don't even realize that they are this way; it's a subconscious thing. But unfortunately, that's the way human nature tends to be (though not always).

It shouldn't matter how the server "looks." What matters is the service and the attitude. I would leave the same amount no matter what.

Server A is working just as hard as Server B. She deserves the same amount of tip money.

i have worked with hundreds of servers and the better looking ones are always tipped better. DIscovery channel did a special on this, with pretty servers giving bad service compared to ugly servers giving great service, and the pretty girls always got more. it's not fair. personally, i start my tip at 20% and if they screw up by neglecting us, getting our order worng or being rude, i move the percentage down. i try not to factor in appearances.
men get tipped more than women period. (not in my book, just what i've seen)

What a disgusting question!

You are paying them for SERVICE (which you say is excellent), NOT for looking at them.

Oh, are you directing this to straight guys, by any chance?

If I'm a regular who routinely receives great service, I tip well, as encouragement.

I'd leave $6 for either.

But I'm female, and not there to oogle.

If they were guys, one cute, one not so much, I'd do the same: $6 (20%).

you do not what to ever pass instantaneous alongside with your servers, its not secure. What you're able to do is detect a swap to connect the two servers. connect the swap to a hub and then plug the workstations to the hub. it is how i setup my community at paintings and we've 3 servers. in simple terms verify you place quite everyone on the same area.
