I haven't been able to sit indian style for longer than 2 minutes for a little over a year now. I've been doing aerobic exercise for about 4 months now and have just started to notice the pain when weight is shifted to soley my knees. Now my knees hurt when going up stairs. I'm barely 20 years old. Could arthritis be the cause?

At your age and the fact that it showed up in both knees at the same time would not point to arthritis, unless your knees are inflamed, reddened and hot. If this is the case, I'd have it checked out by an MD. It's probably stress after exercise; you can consult a coach at your gym for wind-down exercises, or perhaps warm up exercises first, like knee-bends. Also, ballet warm-up exercises employing the plié, a smooth and continuous bending and straightening of the knees with turnout, will strengthen your joints and back. I'm a bit older and an ex-dancer with occasional knee pain, not arthritis but probably from sitting at the computer and not changing position often enough, or walking long distances carrying heavy tote bags. I find hot baths with mineral salts help a lot, along with MSM supplements. Two 1500 mg. tablets daily wipe out pain and regenerate joint tissue. They are fairly inexpensive and also enhance skin and hair. Much healthier for you than Advil or ibuprofen.

This is also a case of patellafemoral syndrome, in which the articulation among the knee cap and the tip of the femur isn't congruent. This is most often extra ordinary in ladies because of our structural variations. Yet, it may also be brought about by means of weak spot in a single exact aspect of the quadriceps as good as tightness of the iliotibial band at the outer aspect of the leg. Pain most often happens while the quadricpes are required to be lively...going up and down stairs, getting up and down from a chair, and so on. It additionally feels like you want extra comparison to be certain there's no structural harm akin to a torn meniscus. If it's both of the above, the next move in care must be bodily remedy in which extra palms on exam will also be performed so as to try to proper the hindrance and scale down suffering.
