okay man there are certain things you do not do after a breakup. One thing you shouldn't do is mope around the house all day keep drowning all of your sad and pissed off feelings, because if you mope around for like a week or two, you're going to probably be eating ice cream, wearing your ex's old clothes, you'll be watching romantic movies all day as you cry into your tissue, and trust me on this YOU'LL BE TOTALLY OUT OF SHAPE. As for drowning your akward feelings on your friends, you might lose another person in your life.
Heres what you should do: DON'T MOPE! Just because a relatrionship ended doesn't mean you can never have another relationship ever again. Go out, meet new people, do whatever it takes to eventually meet an exciting new person who is just like you. And I know that when times get rough you turn to your friends, but if you tell your friends every little detail about how your life is over or you're a relationship reck, they will soon lose it and not deal with your issues. You can still turn to your friends, just don't go over it. Talk to them and ask them what they think about the situation and how it should be resolved.
Also don't let one breakup ruin your life. There are a lot of experiences out in the world, and you should get to know them. Find a new hobby, go to a new club, try a new dish at a resturant do something that'll get your mind off the breakup. And sooner than you think, you'll be back on your feet to go on with your life.
AND:Absolutley NO RANDOM HOOKUPS. Trust me on this, they're way too complicated to handle and you'll either end up getting attached or hurt and maybe the same way for the person you're hooking up with. So just meet a person the old fashion way... TALKING!! =]
I hope you actually read this article and try to listen to it. If you don't it's fine just be careful. Good luck to you =]

Spend time with your friends talk about how you're feelin with someone you trust... don't just bury it or it will come back to bite you in the future... DON'T go out lookin for someone else right away give it time (how long depends on how long you were dating this other person) If you do you will be on a rebound relationship and that is just doomed to be unhealthy and another bad break up.
Try your best to be civil and kind to your ex don't burn bridges. You may not become the best of friends but being civil is better than hating on that person.
Take some time to consider why it didn't work out. Were you just too different? Were you not communicating? Think about it abit so you can learn what to do next time around and not make the same mistake again.

Recollect your thoughts. Think back about ur past relationship and try to learn something out of it.
Once you've done that you can move on faster.
