when i go to save my project it says "save type as:windows movie maker projects(.*MSWMM) <- the mswmm needs to be wmv or somthing but i cant change it do you know how to change it to wmv?

That .mswmm file isn't a media file. It's like a description file that keeps a list of all the clips and what order and transitions etc. It's so you can save something 1/2 way through, then go back and finish it off.

You have to EXPORT a finished movie to WMV.

What you want to do is selection "Save the Movie File" a little lower in the File menu of Movie Maker. That is what allows you to actual create the movie in wmv or other formats.

The "Save Project" just saves the list of clips and the story board that you have. It does not create the movie. You use that is you are in the middle of making something and have to stop. You can then return to it later and finish editing the clips/storyboard.

ok when your done making the movie you click save to my computer (under finish movie) and then depending on how long the movie is it will save for like 3 min. and it will be a wmv

If you are trying to save in any other format then use export option rather than save option.

use Xilisoft to convert to wmv
