We paid $1500 for the Mitsubishi Eclipse. The car came custom, the woman's husband had been a mechanic and had done all sorts of modifications on the car.
My husband evidently sent in all kinds of estimates claiming to have paid to perform the modifications himself, he also claimed to have insurance on the car which was not true. He had not even registered the car's title until after the accident so at the time of the accident the car was still in the previous owner's name. He was paid $5800 for the car.

I had nothing to do with it (I was just in the car). I'm asking because I plan to turn him in and I wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting the companies time.

he told me he had only recieved $2000 for the car (it was totalled) and I found out he had lied through the insurance company and doing some digging around.

This is insurance fraud, and your husband should be arrested and jailed. Exactly why rates are so damn high! The date the car was titled/registered will be the tip off that the vehicle was not insured during the time of the wreck. Simply point out to the insurance company, the dates, they will take it from there. If you signed any documents to title/register the car, you will also be taken down for insurance fraud.

First you should contact the DMV for some advise about this. and then you may have to contact an attorney, If a car was total and payed off as a total then you should have been told about it, so get some legal advise.
