Dear midge,
Unsaved man does both. Remember, there are people in churches who say they are christian but have never been regenerated (saved) by the Lord. Those that mock Christ, the Bible, and Christianity will attempt to bring God down to our vile level.
But thanks be unto God because He can save even the proudest Pharisee and most ungodly heathen.

It is clear that many try to redefine God and bring Him to their standards. However, God will always overcome mans foolishness

I hear ya. We spend too much time trying to make God acceptable to people instead of making people acceptable to God.

Reading the bible makes me wish that god would come up to my standards.
Gandhi, Einstein, Nelson Madella, Bono - these would all be a much better god than the Christian God.
