The child is 7 and has been living with my and my Fiancee for a year. In order to get our marriage license we have to travel to the state we are getting married in. My Fiancee has to work and will be flying in separately. Will I have any problems flying with his child within the U.S? What do I need in order to do this? Thanks!

Nope. No problem. The child knows you and s/he can speak for themselves. Bring the child's I.D. and insurance card, in case of emergency. Also, I'd get a consent for medical treatment, just in case. If s/he just gets a bad cut or something in their eye, for instance, you want to be able to take care of it. It's a form you can type up, both of you sign, and get notarized. If you need help with that I'd be happy to send you a form letter.

Of course, I'm assuming things are fine with this child's family, since you didn't mention it. But if they're not, for example, there's an open custody dispute, you might want to get written permission from the child's mother.

I would not expect you to have problems within the USA, but I would also recommend that you carry a copy of the child's birth certificate with your name on it, especially if you and the child differ in appearance because of the father's contribution to appearance. Some people will be alert for abducted children and some people motivated by prejudice will look for any excuse.

We needed to have the birth certificate and a letter form your fiancee giving you permission. Of course, he must have custody or you will need it from the mother too.

1st have him write an permission slip stating you have his permission to take this child out of state- 2nd have the child's birth certificate with you. You should be set to go as I used to take my son out of the country and had just his birth cert with me and never had no problems- yes we had different last names and no I wasn't the custodial parent either!

You won't have any problems. Bring the child's birth certificate or SS card just to be sure, but don't worry about it.
