There is no nice way to say good-bye. The best you can do is to be honest and come right out and say it's over. Don't argue about it, don't let him try to talk you out of it, just say, "look, I've thought it over and I've decided that you are not the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. It's over and please, don't make me regret the time I've spent with you, because we've had some good times. Let's just end this now and not turn it into something we both will regret." If he's as nice as you say, he'll understand and you'll be free to look elsewhere. Dragging it out or giving explanations will only make it worse and either you, he or both of you will remember the split up more than the good times.

if he hasn't done anything wrong, definatly tell him that right away or it'll get into a big argument, or a debate, about who is right and who is making mistakes in the relationships. just tell him you can't see yourself with someone without a job. and maybe he might even get one if you threaten (nicely) to break up with him if he doesn't have one. and if he still stays a bum then he'll have to understand your decision.

tell him that you really like certain things about him but there are more important ones that you don't this is why you have to end things. tell him the reasons. if he really cares for you he will take care and correct those faults
