I worked at fast food chain during college and even after. I was in the lower levels of management when i had to go on disability.
You'll meet lots of great people and make a lot of new friends you never would have met, otherwise. Just remember, don't be ashamed to work fast food. It's not just a job for 'stupid people' or 'people who don't try'. There were an awful lot of people I worked with (myself included) with higher education degrees. It's nice to see a kid who wants to work. You're Mum sounds like a smart lady.
The only thing I will caution you about: Sometimes customers can be very mean. Just always smile and treat them how you'd want to be treated. And if you aren't comfortable dealing with them, say "Just one moment, please. Let me get my manager."
Good luck with your new job. I'm sure you'll enjoy it and the money it brings you.

When I was 15, I got working papers and worked at McDonald's. I worked hard, but I made a lot of money for the summer and met a lot of fun people. Your mother is right -- you should never be ashamed of doing honest work. By the way, $8.50 an hour for someone 14 is not bad money. Good for you!

I don't think there is anything wrong with working at Mcdonalds. It is A great place. My son is working at a a place called CC's pizza. He is 17. He was offered a job at the local movie theater but said he would rather stay at the pizza place because he is happy there. So don't listen to all the negative crap people are putting out there..... I hope you do well... Just remember to keep your grades up during the school year... (your mom is right by the way)

I worked McDonalds when I was in high school. It's a good first job, an introduction to the world of work, you learn how to interact with customers, keep a regular schedule, work with people, deal with a supervisor and learn how to manage money.
A lot of people look down at fast food jobs, but this is a good company to work for. So don't worry what other people think, just go to work!

Making $8.50 an hour at age 14 sounds pretty good. Lots of people have worked there and had good experiences. Go for it - your mom is right.

McDonald's isn't bad for a fist job, and 8.50 is better than a lot of places, so I would take the job if I were you.

You're 14 so this is your first job and it's a good first job to have. People only down it when people who could have done something with their lives didn't and are now working there for the rest of their lives.

That's too young to work, If I we're You I'd wait until I turn at least 16, I didn't get my first Job until right after I'd turned 16, You got a Couple Years before you you know what life is like in the Real World, your 14 you should Enjoy Life and High School, you're not ready to look for a Job.
