Did you not include references for these statements for a special reason, or did you just make these "facts" up? I score very highly on reading comprehension tests, and I have been a Christian since I was 20 years old (I'm noticeably older than that now).

I don't know why I bothered answering, since you are obviously yet another atheist who's only interest here is mocking Christians and trolling Y! Answers for your jollies. Do us all a favor and get a new hobby....something far away from your computer.

The people without faith are misinterpreting the Bible. I'd wager I score higher than most on this site on reading tests, and I'm Christian. I had a university reading level in grade 8. In fact, I'm in the top 8% for IQ tests also...

The trend you're using merely proves that those with greater intellect often let it go to their heads (no pun intended). They don't want to be answerable to a higher power, and feel that they're smart enough to figure life out on their own. The higher learning taken in many universities engenders a cynical and critical outlook which is antithetical to building faith in the Bible or God.

1) Atheist stats are going to line up with converts from any other religion, and are certainly related to the distinct anti-Christian bias at many colleges and universities. No surveys, for example, were conducted at seminaries or private, conservative universities. Most atheists are converts - and conversion requires thought. If you look at the stats on converts to or from any religion you will see higher numbers.

2) Atheists, as well as most Christians, are misinterpreting the Bible. But atheists are typically worse off, because they adopt Evangelical interpretations of Scripture (they are easier to refute than interpretations based on academic opinion). Most atheists interpret the Bible more literally than the average Evangelical Protestant. The people who are interpreting the Bible correctly are the scholars who study redaction criticism, Greek, Hebrew, Latin, paleography, and textual criticism.

Really?
I assume that the majority of atheists are the product of the public school system (where the atheist agenda was established firmly in 1972).
I myself attended a private religious school from K-6, and was shocked to find that the in the public school system, subjects such as reading, writing, and math, at the 10th grade levels, were already taught to me in the fourth grade.
My GPA and testing has always been in the top 8%.

What is painfully obvious about atheists, is their overwhelming lack of independant thought.
I have been researching the atheist viewpoint for only about a year, and the commonality of the average atheist character, is one of staunch resistance to the ability to see the other's viewpoint. Everyone that does not agree with the atheist agenda is pushed aside with name calling and belittleing.
Atheists have taken over the place once reserved by the religious intolerant. And when this fact is pointed out, the only result? More denial and name calling.
Atheists claim to be the more intelligent group, yet I am beginning to understand that all these claims of intelligence are truly exposing the fact that atheists are so insecure of their beliefs, that to try and soothe their insecurity, they must repeatedly belittle others, and at the same time tell themselves they are "smarter" than everyone else.
I really feel sorry for all of you. I do not need approval from the world to know that I have value.
As an electrical foreman, with electrical engineering skills, I am constantly required to use my mental faculties to complete projects that quite often the architects and engineers have underdesigned.
If, I am supposedly so stupid, (and I do think that most of these architects are atheists, why? because they are all colloege grads) then how is it that I am always having to account for the dangerous missing details that the atheist architects missed?
About the assumption that most architects/engineers are atheist? It is not uncommon knowledge that the institutions of higher learnng, most often have in their agenda the squashing of religious belief, and the overt agenda of promotion of atheism.
Sad to say, you atheists seem to be the most misguided and self deluded group of people on the earth today. And over and over, you people continue your preaching of atheism. You yourselves are blind to the fact that you are preaching.
You accuse the religious of cramming religion down your throats, yet you are here on the religious category cramming atheism down our throats.
Fortunately, I am not as weak minded as you atheists. I have the ability and freedom of thought to actually comprehend the words that people use, and to see the accuracy and flaw in the various arguments provided.
In the overview, atheists as a group are the most blind and fearful people on this category.
There does not seem to be a single one of you who can see the contradictions in your own arguments.
And again, whenever I point these facts out? Name calling and belittleing.
My overall conclusion is that atheists have never mentally graduated from the figurative schoolyard playground. So, they
will always try the tactic of bullying and name calling to cover over their own fear of being discovered as the frauds that they are. Mentally, educationally, and emotionally, atheists are the least socially developed of all the delineations of belief. They do not play nice. And really shoul spend some time in a quiet corner, so they can ponder why they should be punished for their anti-social behavior.

Do you have a source that supports that atheists score higher on reading tests than Christians ?

My son has been tested up the wazoo, he gets very high test scores (he's a Jr. in High School and in the honors program, and will be a concurrent college/high school student next year) As far as I know, none of the bazillion tests that he has taken have asked him what his religion is.

I have a background in literary analysis. I've read the Bible, more than once. I'm not misinterpreting anything, of that I'm quite sure.

Here's an even better question for you: why do atheists (among others) insist on reading the bible, with total disregard for context and literary type, as if it were a "high context" document when it was written in and for "low context" societies?

I guess an atheist did this amazing analysis of test scores for them. Again we can see your amazing analytical minds fracturing science and math to suit your narrow-minded ideals or lack thereof.
God bless you.

Now just watch the narrow-minded thumbs down because it questions their great knowledge and wisdom.

And where do you get these statistics from? That's funny. Whenever I've been tested for reading skills no one ever asked me if I was a Christian or an Atheist?
