I am living in Japan for a while and it is hard to get American PS3 games out here. I need to know if Japanese games will work on U.S. PS3's.

yes, any ps3 game can work on any region ps3, its only movies and ps2/ps games that are still region locked

yes, PS3 games are region free.
HOWEVER, PS3 is not backwards compatible with other regions. In other words, your American PS3 will play Japanese PS3 games, but NOT Japanese PS2 games.

PS3 is region free. Regional issue only comes in, when you'll try to play PS2 games or movies. This content is not region free.

PS3 will work with any other region PS3 games.
All u can't do is play PS2 games from other regions with ur PS3.The backwards compatibility doean't work that way.Only US if u got it from US!

They should and some may have a language barrier so it would be in English when played (if the president of Sony was telling the truth).
