Take him off the antibiotic... and talk to your doctor or find a new one to correct the original problem another way

If the label on the antibiotic says to take it on a full stomach or a empty stomach, follow the directions precisely - not doing so can make for a bad time. (some antibiotics like Zithromax are like that.) DO NOT take him off of it or demand a change - that is how drug-resistant bugs are bred.

Otherwise, a soft, bland diet with plenty of carbs (like bread, crackers, noodles) will probably ease his discomfort. Some kids find milk soothing, others don't. Make sure it wouldn't interact with the medication first - in fact, call your pharmacist anyway to ask if there's any food or drink to avoid on this!

Antibiotics can kill the 'good' bacteria that live in our stomach's. These are living bacteria that help the stomach and body do their work. Yogurt, as suggested above, is a good one. Make sure it has 'active cultures'. You can also buy supplements that have acidophiles and others. If you have a health food store in your town that also carries some herbal products, you could talk to the person in that department about the supplements they carry that have active cultures. Not all yogurt is 'active' (or alive) so read the labels carefully. Most of these supplements also need to be stored in the fridge so they stay 'active' (alive).

That depends on what you mean by destroying his stomach---Have you called his MD? Remember MD's work for YOU!!!!
The only difference between an MD and a plumber is the pipes they work on.

If the MD says that vomiting and nausea and diarrhea are normal either ask or check a PDR to see if it is OK to give yogurt---Often these problems are caused by the natural flora of the digestive system being disturbed by the antibiotic and yogurt can help restore things to normal.

Find another antibiotic?

Get a second opinion?

Are we talking about just some diarrhea and nausea and stomach ache or serious damage to his stomach lining? Ask the dr if pepto bismol would be ok (coats the lining of the stomach) and limit food to bland choices to not further aggravate his bowels.

get him off the antibiotic and on to something less damaging would be first choice. If, for some reason that can't be, get him on a probiotic regimin: plenty of yogurt, acidophillus supplements (any healthfood store), etc. Antibiotics kill all bacteria, bioth bad and good. Your stomache needs bacteria to do the normal things it must. Probiotics help put the good bacteria back and should help heal from infection faster. Also, if reluctant to call a physician, consult a pharmacist (in my opinion, they are better disposed to answering drug questions, anyway).

No, don't take him off the antibiotic. If it is just making him sick to his stomach, he'll be back to normal once the round is completed.

Until then, try to pad the medication times with food (this gets his body digesting, so then the antibiotic is digested easier) and get him to drink liquid with electrolytes in it, to keep him hydrated. You can ALWAYS call your pharmacist for free advice regarding administering medicines.

Yeah, what Ivan says. Acidophilous & lipitropic adjuncts. If his stomach is literally being destroyed you'd best consult with a doctor because if you take him off them, the infection could take over, if you leave him on he could get ulcers in his intestines. Get some help right away. We're praying.

Get him back in to the doctor and don't wait too long. Is his stomach upset on the inside? Or, is this something on the outside, the skin? If he is having an upset stomach he could be having an allergic reaction which can get worse.

it sounds like it's too strong for his stomach to handle. I am the same way with Penicillin, even if I take it with a meal, i get terrible stomach pains. Speak to your pediatrician and ask him to prescribe something else for your son. good luck!
