Yes, especially when some churches espouse the notion of abundant wealth. (As in the Lord will bless you with...) What about the impoverished people in the world who own virtually nothing but still are Christian? Culturally, it seems many crave physical wealth over spiritual well-being. Ah, such is life.

What a pretty, AND MEANINGLESS, assortment of words.
Most of the people in the West these days are preoccupied with impending poverty.
Organized Christianity ceased to exist 500 years ago.
The only reason any religion would need credibility on a hemispheric scale is to accumulate money for itself.
Western Materialism is about to be swallowed whole by Eastern Materialism.
If we don't choose our worthwhile activites for ourselves, we are willing slaves; if we do, we are unwilling slaves, unless we are among the very rich.

THAT IS TRUE and is now an ongoingh reality worldwide as mankind will become more materialistic as swayed and deceived by Satan who is the author of all sins. Also technology through the gods of technologies will usher mankind to the lure of the better life, longer life span better engineered food, beauty, etc which are actually deceptive -then mankind swayed by satan will forget THE LORD GOD and they will love instead the gods of technology like Einstein, Goddard, Madame Curie, Bill Gates, In fact in the last days, the whole world will be demonized as in Revelation 18:2 saying fallen, fallen is Babylon the great (GLOBAL CITY) because it has become a home of demons and visitations of evil spirits. However, all these things are under the eiine plan to usher the 2nd coming of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST who will take the reign of this earth and the whole universe. And THE LORD JESUS CHRIST will rule with righteousness, lovingkindness and justice over all the earth-the whole universes. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD. Pls visit my website-http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thegoodnew...

i'm not an atheist yet i will take a crack at this one. Your question is nearly like asking: are not you happy you have strategies cancer particularly of all the different cancers you're able to have had? Christianity, as properly as the different prepared faith, is the cancer of humanity. it particularly is killing us very very slowly. No, i'm quite not happy that that is "mere Christianity" that we could continuously cope with. that's the mother of all religious plagues. to date as a number of the different "religions" you point out are in contact: Scientology is a fad and could not final and paganism replaced into around loooong formerly any of the Abrahamic religions and could proceed long as quickly as they slip into fantasy. Paganism is what contemporary religions are based upon. might I particularly have politicians all be of one religious stripe or yet another? quite not! in actuality, I dream of a worldwide the place politicians and their religions do not exist in any respect. - The eternal Satyr

Not just the credibility of Christianity, but the character of our humanity, no matter our faith, religion, spirituality or lack thereof. We focus on "stuff" which is impermanent and does not matter, and we avert our eyes from the suffering and the need for love and peace in the world, which does matter.

hehehe! crass commercialism is the hallmark of American Christianity. they have their multi million dollar mega churches, their glitzy TV preaching shows, their Creation "Museum" ($20 a ticket) and a Christian amusement park is being built complete with rides and souvenirs. American Christians (especially the Fundy variety) are the PROUD and LOUD majority religion and they have plenty of money to blow on self aggrandizement while complaining that their tax dollars are foolishly spent on the babies of welfare mothers.

Absolutely we do.
The whole capitalist/consumer system is predicated on purchases of non-essential goods.
If this country suddenly became as frugal as our parents became after the Great Depression; our way of life would crumble.

I don't think that Jesus would be too impressed with all the vulgar displays of wealth that permeate our society.
