I could never be liberal mostly because I hate abortion. Right to choose? So retarded. Gay marriage? The bible says that's wrong like a gazillion times. I think too much freedom gets you into trouble. If we stay conservative maybe the world won't influence our children.

Evidently it is possible, but I've always wondered how it could be. I know people that I don't doubt at all are Christians, but are just as liberal as the worldly people in Hollywood. Apparently those who have misplaced loyalties to a political system do not study the Bible for themselves or hear directly from God on the issues of the day. That's all I can come up with, because there are so many of my Christian friends who vote straight liberal without even considering what it means. I guess if you trust your culture, your rearing, your leaders, etc. more than going to God's Word and finding out what He says about issues, then that's how it happens. I know a lot of God's sheep prefer to be spoon fed rather than search the scriptures for themselves and that's not real smart if you have leaders who you never question and just accept anything they have on their agenda as truth.
To answer the question, no, it doesn't make sense, but it is possible and I think it is a fact of life.

The closer you get to being a true Christian you will lose the label of conservative or liberal.
You be after the Truth which will make you unpopular at sometime in either camp.

People like to say Jesus is a liberal or conservative.
The truth is he stood beyond those names.

So to answer your question YES you can be a liberal Christian. Like YES you can be a conservative Christian.

The much better goal is to be a Christian first and foremost.

Good luck

many people claim to be Christian that are not. you will know this by the words they speak, the things they do, the places they go, the program & movies they watch, their interests, how they spend their time, how they look, the clothes they wear, what they put into their mouths or bodies.

many people love God, but on their own terms... thinking it doesn't matter about what they do ... that God knows their heart. yeah, He sure does. He knows what's in their heart better then they do... & He sees the hidden intentions of the heart.

if you are really a Christian, not just professing to be one, then you cannot be liberal.
why??
b/c Christian means to be like Christ, & He was not a liberal. (if you don't believe what i say is true, read His Word.)

when you come to God & live for God, it has to be on His terms. He's the One who created the world, He's the one who died for our salvation, & He is the one who will judge each of us at our death.

the LORD, however, is very fair. He gave us free will to worship & live for Him or not. Only know that we will not enter heaven just b/c we think we should... or we think we have been a good person. the only way Jesus said is that we are born-again & afterward, live a holy life.

there is no gray area with God. it is either black or white ... either evil or good ... you either live for Him, or you are living for the evil one.

each one of us is given a choice ... the earth is our proving ground. we will have eternal life somewhere ... we will pay the consequences of our earthly choices ... whether it be with God or in hell.

I can't see how the two could possibly mix. Christians who are following biblical standards would have to be classed as conservative by the standards set by society because their values are based in moral absolutes.

To say Christian liberal is to say someone is watering down their faith and their allegiance to God and the scriptures. This is never permitted in the Bible. Jesus said, "You are either for me or against me." He did not leave some middle ground for Christians to walk on.

EDIT: I FIND IT TRAGIC AND AMUSING AT THE SAME TIME HOW PEOPLE THINK MORAL ABSOLUTES ARE INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THEIR LIBERAL IDEAS. GOD WILL NEVER MAKE CONCESSIONS FOR YOU. REPENT OR FIND OUT THE HARD WAY THAT HIS WORD IS LAW!

To be a follower of Christ is to be a Liberal. Christ was denounced by his fellow Jews as being far too liberal in his interpretation of the Scriptures and thus he was condemned to death.

Conservatives, like the Sadducees and Pharisees, were condemned by Christ as hypocrits. Of course they wanted to preserve the status quo, because they were the rich and powerful in their society. But they did not love God nor did they follow the spirit of their own laws and Commandments.

The same struggle continues today between those who pay lip service to serving God and those who actually serve God.

Absolutely possible. Of course, that all depends upon how rigid and limited your definitions of both words are.

How did people ever became so judgmental that they fantasized THEY had the definitive view of politics or religions; that anyone who didn't subscribe EXACTLY to their view didn't fit the mold?

We treat others with love, compassion and mutual respect as Jesus would want us to, but we also believe people have a right to live their own life and pursue their own individual happiness as long as it does not directly effect us.

Life should not be about constant, unending exclusion.

I refer to myself as a liberal Christian. I don't believe in interpreting The Bible literally, I believe that many things are meant to be symbolic and failing to interpret them in that way takes away from some of the beauty in scripture. I believe in following the commandments that Jesus gave us -- to love God with our whole hearts, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. I think that anything that takes away from those two commandments -- even if advocated by churches or other writers in The Bible -- is detrimental to the message of Christ and not what God intended for his followers.

Basically, I believe that appreciating God and the people around us will please God more than trying to conform ourselves to how other people think we should act.

Now, if you are referring to the political term liberal ... well, of course this is possible, too. Liberal doesn't equal "evil", just like conservative doesn't equal "Christian". We are all entitled to our own ideas about what is important in this country.

In Germany, devout Christianity is associated with the left wing. (I heard that on a CNN interview once, sorry I don't know the date or remember who said it).

Jon Stewart on the Daily Show often points out that in life, Jesus' beliefs and actions were all in accordance with modern liberalism, and questions how it is that conservatives get to be associated with religion in the U.S. (at least I think it's Jon Stewart... I could be thinking of someone else)

I'm a Christian and consider myself "liberal," at least when compared to the more conservative fundamentalist Christians. I don't see why there would be any reason it wouldn't make sense.

If you are truly a Christian then you are trusting in God's word which will automatically remove you from the liberal ranks....
Liberals care nothing for God's word.
They can call themselves anything they want but it won't make them a Christian unless they have come to the knowlege of God's saving grace through Christ Jesus which can only come by God's Spirit and Word which takes you right back to what I said at the start of this.
