I had heard that as you go to sleep say "I will dream about__" and you will dream that. I have never been successful at that.

Do you have any methods whereby you can manipulate your dreams?

Hi,

Being able to 'manipulate' dreams is called 'lucid dreaming.' It's an actual phenomenon and lots of studies have been done on its effects and how to achieve it. If you want more information, check out the Institute for Lucid Dreaming at www.lucidity.com. They have techniques and technology which can aid you in being able to go lucid, like the NovaDreamer Mask.

It is important to note that these people are scientists, and do not deal in any new age nonsense like you'll find on here.

I don't know why, well maybe I do, but I do not like the term manipulation. That said...
Mafiagirl is correct. Dreams usually reflect what we think about during the day and are a way of processing though and consolidating it into memory, or at least that is one aspect. If you think enough about something, you are likely to dream abou it. But also consider that we have many dreams each night, if we are sleeping well, and we may only influence one dream. We often don't remember all these dreams. Just think, if we did, we would have little room for new thoughts, we would be continually rehashing the old stuff. We do rehash anyway, but we are not aware of it all the time.

There are some ideas about people who can manipulate your dreams but they don't have much success at them.

There are two theories about dreams and I do believe both are correct.
When you dream you brain is reorganizing your short term electrical memories into long term memories. So it is your brain defragging your memory so to speak.
The other is you are working out problems or thinking about things that bother you while you sleep.

So I don't see the point in manipulating your dreams just relax and enjoy the ride.

Through the power of the devil. The only way a witch or warlock has power over another person or their dreams is through their unrepented sins or their fear such things. To protect yourself from such evil get into the Word of Almighty God (The Tree of Life and Light, the Bible) especially Psalm 91 and the first four verses of Psalm 68 each night before sleep. Remember what you allow yourself to think, see, hear, say and do literally set into motion God’s creative powers that form the matrix of life’s reality you find yourself now walking so be circumspect, putting your mind, eyes, ears and tongue on what is good, positive and constructive. Being that dreams occur in a state of sleep, I don't see any possible way of manipulating them. You may be able to do certain things to avoid bad dreams, such as not watch horror flicks or discuss scarey stories before sleep, but that's about it.
