If I were you, I would wait until I could afford it on my own.

Why were you borrowing your friends cell phones? Was it to call your parents for a ride or to tell them where you were? Or were you using it for fun? If you need it to keep in touch with your parents, then tell your mom that. If you want one just because everyone else has one, well, good luck. You may want to try talking to your mom and see if there is a way you could help out more around the house in exchange for a phone. Good luck

When you're old enough to write properly, caps at the beginning of sentences "I" is always capital, and apostrophes go in contractions, then you will be old enough to have a cell phone.
My daughter got hers the Xmas before she turned 12.

KP... OBVIOUSLY you don't know the same type of people I know. Everyone that has let their child have a cell phone, at 12, in our circle does NOT give their kid everything. All of us have (or had in my case) our children enrolled in private school. Field trips were done in private cars, and our kids are gone with friends a lot. We discussed it, and decided that music cell phones were far more practical, and safer, than Ipods.
My daughters do not get "everything", and you are wrong to make that ASSumption.

Hi, Im a mom too.. my son, who just turned 14, got his cell phone this year. I think at 12 a child does not need one. My reasonings behind it??? My kids are with me or with other family/adults I know all the time, and when they are at school, they are also with other kids/adults, so no need for a cell. Now when u get older, and you may/may not be around your mom all the time, then u would probably need one. I used to give my son mine when/if he ever went with friends away from me. Cells were meant to be helpful, not annoying, now everybody does have one. My son, who begged for one for 2 yrs even now sees how annoying they can be....So be patient with mom, maybe when ur 14, and going into high school, u will get one!! Good Luck!!

No,*everyone* else does NOT have one (and the fact that you attempted to use that as part of your argument simply shows your immaturity). I have a 12-year-old, I know many other 12-year-old's and very FEW of them have a cell phone (and the ones that do have parents that simply give them everything they ask for, which is NOT good parenting).

In my opinion, yes, you're too young. My reason--you don't need one. You're too young to be in a situation where you wouldn't be supervised, or at the very least, have access to a phone. As long as you have access to a phone, you don't need a cell phone.

You are old enough for a cell phone when you can pay the monthly bill yourself. Are you old enough for a cell phone? Mine runs about 20 a month but my daughter who constantly text messages runs about 60. I would imagine, being 12, your bill would be more like hers. Can you pay 60 a month? If you can, I think you are old enough for a cell phone.

Yes Im sorry I think that you are too young for the responsibility of a phone, one because you arent old enough to pay the bill if you run it up talking to your friends when its only meant to check in with your parents or emergencies.

I don't think you're to young. My daughter has had one since she was about 8. She knows it's not there to talk on 24/7. It's for us to talk,or friends, for an emergency etc. As long as you're responsible (don't go over your minutes, don't leave it somewhere) then it's ok.

if you can't pay for it yourself, then you aren't old enough. i agree with mom. borrow your friends cell phone like last year. you've saved your parents hundreds of dollars by not wasting minutes and text messages.
