Dental is your 2nd job.
Your 1st job is obvious you are in the military.
You may not be on the front line but the way todays war has been going the front line is everywhere. Heck I work Physical Therapy and I still get issued a gun so what does that tell you.

Yes and the dental corps merged with the medical corps about two years ago. There is no such thing as a straight DT anymore. People need dental care while at war also so you can get deployed there with or without the Marines.

Most Dental problems are med-evacuated to a rear area in any service. However, we have had had lots of wars where the rear was a shifting sort of concept. You can get blown up in a base stateside if your luck is bad enough. Of course you can get blown up if your in a civilian dental job (grin). Nothing is totally safe but it is not like walking point in a line grunt outfit.

You will go to a giant major FOB/LSA and will rarely see anything. Maybe a puff of smoke. The only thing the Gavy does in Iraq is customs and dentists.

there are no more DTs, they have all merged into the HM rating. so yes, it is possible for someone with that NEC to be sent FMF and be in the field with Marines, or to be sent to the field hospitals.
