Get him a Kong, it is a very bouncy rubber toy that has a hole in it that treats are hidden in and the dog has to work to get them out. Some people put kibble in them or peanut butter, pieces of meat or things like dog bisquits. I think your friends dog will enjoy it. Try PetsMart

Do you have a petco or petsmart near you? What I would do is go to a petshop like petco or petsmart where they have the counter with the variety of biscut treats for dogs. They make treats that look like they are cookies and such. Just get a small bag full and place a ribon around it to tie it off. The dog will love them because there is a variety and they could last a while if he is only allowed one a day. They also have doggy bakeries were they make nutritious dog cookies and such that looks just like people food. Instead of chocolate they use charib (spelling??) that is ok for the dog to eat. Hope I helped some. Good luck

Maybe a treat or a new toy would be nice. Another idea is to ask the owner about the dog to see what it likes.

Good Question! Our dog loves toys that have a bell inside and Pigs Ears! Squeaky toys are a sure dog pleaser and a good old fashioned Bone!

I have a winner: a Duckbilled Platerpus. Petsmart has other characters that do the same thing: It has a pouch for two brown soft squeeky balls to fit in. Dogs use there snouts to get them out and they squeek them to their delight. One was given to us as a gift for our dog and he LOVES it.
Search on actual name:
Pippi the Platypus Egg Baby
or go to www.doggy-gifts.com/Dog_Toys/Kyjen_Egg_Babies
The cost is about $9.00 USD

Decorated doggy biscuits are a good gift, as are balls. Most dogs love balls of bright color, and it helps if they squeak- Do you know whether your friend's dog is small, medium or large? It makes it easier to get a ball if you know the size of the dog.

Maybe a bunch of greenie bones. Dogs love those things! They're good for their teeth too. They come in all sorts of sizes for different sized dogs. Or maybe a picture frame that has a dog theme to it so she can put a photo of her pooch in there..

find out from your friend what kind of toys the dog is allowed to have (no plush or rawhide for my boys) and if the dog is a strong chewer. that way you can get a toy that's more hardy. good luck.

i always do plush toys, size depending on the dog. with so many dogs having allergies, cookies and treats arent always the best.
and if its a dog that rips apart toys (like mine ;)
well, at least they got a few minutes of play time out if it.

A Kong - they can be filled with peanut butter (for example) and then put in the freezer. Will entertain the dog for hours!
