I'm very handsome, distinguished looking, well groomed . and very, very clean. I am short (for a man) Nowadays, it's very hard to find a woman who's attracted to a short man. What's up??

Plenty of women don't care about height, and yes, there are women who prefer short men (In fact one who comes to mind wouldn't date a man taller than 5'4" - she loved the feeling of putting on heels and having them look up to her)

As to why in most societies females have a predisposition to taller men, it's probably an outgrowth of millions of years of natural selection- the female brain responds positively to certain characteristics, as does the male brain. Females seek mates who are good providers and will yield healthy offspring. This is not unique to humans, it applies across the entire animal kingdom.

Physical traits which would give one male an advantage over his competition are regarded positively. In prehistoric days, greater strength & size would tend to correlate with greater prowess in fighting off predators, hunting, carrying heavier loads, seeing predators over the tall grass, fending off other males, etc. By the same token, obvious physical challenges would reduce both one's attractivesness and probably one's lifespan- poor eyesight or hearing wouldn't help if you're trying to escape the saber-tooth cats.

Societies themselves came to regard advantageous characteristics as "good" or "manly" traits. Whether you're talking medieval knights or heavyweight boxing champions, almost every society honors it's best warriors. The best hunters or "captains of industry" - either way you're talking about the top providers. All of this shapes what children brought up in those societies are taught, and what they look for in potential mates as adults.

As mankind evolved from nomadic tribes to agricultural & industrial societies other factors are now better indicators of a man's fitness as a mate, but genetics don't change anywhere near as quickly as technology- so we're operating in environments quite different from that which shaped most of our brain's development (we're talking a few thousand years vs millions)

Now all of this amounts to very little- people use their minds as much as their eyes in selecting companions. But the predisposition towards certain traits is there. It's not the whole ballgame- not by a long shot. It's more like a first-impression unconscious reaction, is all. You just have to work a little harder than the "tall, dark and handome" type to break the ice.

Tom Cruise, Sly Stallone, John-Claude Van Damme- there's no shortage of women who find those guys attractive, and they're much shorter than average.

Go for tall women, they are less shallow than short women. Most short women want a guy who's a foot taller than they are, so they feel like the little doll who's protected by the big guy, while many tall women date men shorter than they are. I'm 5ft11 and i think shorter guys are cute, but not all are, it depends on the guy. But i would not turn a guy down only cause he is shorter than me.

Man I assure you you have other issues which are causing you dating problems. I am 5' 5" and since I was old enough to date I have never been without women in my life.

I suggest you step back and look at the big picture because height doesn't have much to do with it overall.

I am attracted to shorter men. I am 5'2" but too frequently asked out by men over 6'. I think it must be a 'protection' kind of attitude. I would rather date men 5'6" aprrox. I like them to be a little taller than me but not too much. It is so nice to slow dance and look some one in the eye instead of the shirt pocket.

chicks like a guy who's taller cuz it seems manly and commanding and sexy. also, tall men have higher status even among *men*, and one's status among men is a huge determinant of how many women you'll get.

that said, i am 6'6" and have lost out to short guys for major babes before. it happens. and even as a tall guy i dont really get a ton of chicks. some, and some are hot as heck, but not a ton.

If a woman is not attracted to you because you are short it is not necessarily just about you - it could be about her. She is insecure about herself! Most woman are so obsessed with being the 'smaller' one in a relationship. (I don't say that as only being 'height'). They simply can't deal with their own body image within the relationship in comparison to yours. Simply put, they think they appear very large next to you!
