I was asked to read this poem at my cousin's wedding - I really liked it. Hope you do too. I don't know who wrote it but a google search will probably tell you.
The Art of Marriage
Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens. A good marriage must be created.
In the Art of Marriage the little things are the big ones. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say 'I love you' at least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry. It is at no time taking the other for granted. It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world. It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy. It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humour. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow. It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependance is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

Gosh, some of these are pretty long for a wedding reading! The reception will be over before the poem is finished! :-)
If I didn't already have in mind something I wanted to share in my wedding, I think I would just skip having a reading. If you want to use something, make it short and sweet. Two or three minutes of reading is enough. More than that, people's attention will wander. (I am an avid reader myself, but have never liked to listen to the average orator read.)

This poem (Sonnet 116) is beautiful, and romantic. If you don't like it, try other poems by Shakespeare (I know it may seem typical that it's Shakespeare, and that everyone does it, but there must be a reason why everyone chooses Shakespeare!)
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments; love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no, it is an ever-fixèd mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his heighth be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
William Shakespeare

here is one that I have :
A Marriage
For a lifetime or longer two souls intertwine
Their love&thier wishes &thoughts to combine
What one may think the other will feel
Together a chance to find values so real
Within this closeness can be no pretense
Making only a game of self defense
There's no need for defense only trust
For two mature minds to love & adjust
You must be yourself this is true
You cannot be another for you are you
Two personalities can become whole
Look within yourself to find anothers soul
One may lack what another may be
To know this is compatibility
Each for the other & both for our Lord
Produces a mate that may be adored
A marriage with God's work as its aim
Will light two lives with a steady flame
Then two seperate souls may be as one
Made in Heaven, God's will has been done

I love this one. My now sister-in-law read it at our poem.
i carry your heart with me
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

A Word to Husbands
by Ogden Nash
To keep your marriage brimming
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you’re wrong, admit it;
Whenever you’re right, shut up.

We had "Sonnet No.18" by Shakespeare (Sung by Brian Ferry) as our first dance song for our wedding. Beautiful words and not too long. It's also something a bit different...
Enjoy your day!

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i'm in no way devoid of it (everywhere i bypass you bypass, my expensive; and despite is executed via in undemanding terms me is your doing, my darling) i concern no destiny (for you're my destiny, my candy) i choose for no international (for fascinating you're my international, my authentic) and that is you're despite a moon has continually meant and despite a sunlight will continually sing is you right it fairly is the non-public secret no person is nicely-known with of (right it fairly is the foundation of the foundation and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree referred to as existence; which grows bigger than the soul can wish or the recommendations can conceal) and that's the beauty it fairly is preserving the celebrities aside i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart) This poem is via E.E. Cummings. I merely gave a replica of it to my husband to be :)
