You will be best to keep your puppy on whatever the breeder has been feeding it to start with, i use complete food (soaked in water) for my puppies and they are all fine with it and all of my adult dogs eat only complete food and they are all fit and healthy. It depends on how much you want to spend per week to keep your dog and where you would go for your food as to what type to get and the most expensive are not always the best, just have a read on the back of the packs to check out the contents of them and decide from what is in them for what you think is the best but make sure you wean your puppy off slowly from its original food. good luck

I have a 2yr old Rottie, he has always been brought up on dry food, he weighs 9stone, so it has done him well. I use WAGG, u can get it in Tesco or any big pet store. I find that it is gentle on the stomach, whereas the tin food is very rich, and upset him and gives him the runs. Also i find that if u leave their bowls down with the dry food in it, u don't have to feed them so often, coz they know the food is always there, so if they are hungry, they can just go and get it. They will not hassle you at feeding time. Hope i have helped?

A good quality dry food along with a good quality wet food would be ideal.

Wet food contains more meat protein, less carbs and less calories. Contrary to popular belief (even still among some vets) wet food doesn't casue tooth issues nor does dry food keep teeth clean.

Stay away from store brands such as Purina, Science Diet, Pedigree, Alpo,Beneful (this is one of the worst, etc be it dry or wet.

Look for a good quality meat based food such as Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Premium Edge, merrick, Fromm just to name a few. These foods make excelalnt dry and wet foods.

Dry food is fine for your dog, you can also add water if the pup prefers. I would suggest something like James Wellbeloved, eukanuba large breed pup food or Hill science diet. Make sure you feed to the correct guidelines as dried food is often overfed.
Alternatively if you wish to have a tinned meat which is light on the stomach, chappie is quite good.

Initially feed what the breeder fed and any diet changes should be done gradually over a period of time to avoid tum upsets..

Your vet may offer free nurse clinic where you can get nutritional advice and other advice as well.

James Well Beloved.Don't get the crap commercial foods, i.e Bakers Complete and Pedigree etc. They are just multicolured crap and are no good for the dog whatsoever.James well beloved has no Wheat Gluten,as most complete drys are cereal based, which makes the dog hyperactive and loopy. Its not cheap at 6 quid for 2.5 kilos but will calm down and is much better for your dog.

dry food because its better for there teeth and will control there weight. Lamb and rice is always a good choice. Also dry food will keep there poop more compact then wet. Make sure you start them on a puppy food then when the time comes to switch to adult food mix in there puppy food with new food that way they don't get the runs. They have sensitive tummy's.

I started handling dogs in the 60's and did so through the middle 90's. EVERY vet I had said the best diet was a mix of kibble and canned. My dogs (German Shepard's for the most part) got 1 cup of kibble and half a can of wet when nothing was going on and that was adjusted up when we were busy or the dog needed more. Watch his weight big dogs need better weight control then those small yippee fluffs of fur!!

PUrina is pure garbage and so is Kibbles and Bits. Anything from a grocery store is crap. Pedigree--UGH!!

Feed the puppy good food and she will eat less and poop less and be healthier.

I feel my dogs Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul, they also make a puppy version. It's affordable.

Here a chart that you can make your comparisons. Try to buy something that has a higher number. The higher the number the better the food.

Dry food is great. Its convenient and doesnt go off like tinned food. You can get some which has soft meaty bits in it.. Dont forget though that your puppy will drink lots more water with dry food. I used to get bakers complete for my GSD.

Always look on the pack what the dog food contains. Most dog food food got maize(corn) in it. That is not very healthy for a dog.Look for dog food made from rice. The dog will eat less and poop less as well - TRUTH
