I was reading the ingredients list of a bag of Hill's Science Diet at the vet yesterday, and i don't understand. If corn is so hard for dogs to digest why is "ground whole grain corn" the second ingredient? Why is "Gluton Corn Meal" on there? Where are they getting "Animal Fat", why is it not more specific?
I am trying to find out why vets are carrying this food. It is nothing but fillers in the top ingredients right after chicken. So many dogs have allergies to wheat and soy, that is what is causing a lot of the skin irritations. It also stresses the digestive tract and lowers the immunity.
The only thing i can think of is that it helps keep dogs needing veterinary care.
Poor dogs.

this food is CRAP - why do vets sell it?? 2 reasons.
1 vets often receive little or NO training in regards to food quality and ingredients
2 Hills pays them to sell it...and since other vets are selling it -its easier to convince them to sell it also

Hills actually PAID for vet endorsement.

what is animal fat?? its a preservative - they say "animal" becuase they can vary from pork to beef to chicken and dont have to stay consistant that way...

no it doesnt help dogs or cats anymore than another quality food, infact it often can do more harm than good...

you will note also "by-products" are beaks feet feathers (cheap filler) are use in some Hills products - by -products are especially bad since they are preserved with a chemical PESTICIDE known as ETHOXYQIN - this stuff is so bad some countires like Japan have banned it from use.

Hills is a cleverly marketed food which has ZERO support from me.

I feed my dog Purina and my dog does fine. Dogs have very adaptable digestion systems with consistent food.

Ground corn is easy for dogs to digest, and gluten corn is partially processed corn to make it easy to digest.

Animal Fat can come from various animals and organs, but it is safe and nutritious.

The most important thing on a Dog Food label is AAFCO - Association of American Feed Control Officials. Following those standards implies that the manufacturer spends millions of dollars to insure quality.

Also, If they change the quality of the food, the dog will get sick, quickly. Bad for business.

Except for some rare problems, that are globally publicized (!), the food that we feed our millions of dogs is OK.

I fed one dog cheap Purina for 17 years !

However, yes you can make the dog food even better to have a healthier dog that lives a few more years....

Money, money, money! That's it! In society these days, people think that whatever costs more is the best, so this is what they purchase. With vets, they are sold on products the same way. It is all about social standing and the money!

Animal fat is what it says, it will be the fatty parts of the meat we dont eat, i would think it gives some flavour, dogs love that sort of thing,
