Near where I live, just over a week ago, we went from the worst drought in Australia's history, to sudden devastation by flood. A dozen lives were lost, thousands of homes and commercial premises flooded in over a metre of water along with 5000 cars washed away. The gale force winds that accompanied the flood brought down thousands of trees with hundreds of homes smashed. Over 200,000 people were without power for 4 days. Tens of thousands were also without running water. The storm was so fierce that at the start of it, a 40,000 ton cargo ship, 220 metres long got washed up onto the beach.

As the waters were receding, I heard someone on the radio say "We can thank god that the worst is over".

???

Isn't it a bit weird to thank god for only throwing a hundred rocks at you instead of two hundred?

I know that positive thinking's a good thing, but if they want to thank their sky daddy for ending the storm, why not take him to task for the storm coming in the first place?

thanking God that the worst is over is the same as thanking him for the disaster? i don't think so!

I thank Him for bringing me thru the tragedies that surround us... and for keeping people safe... but i usually do not 'thank him' for horrible things that happen... those things will happen regardless and only with Him have i found peace thru it... not because of a 'false sense of hope' but because the change He made in me has been so huge others have seen it too... not just me.

I wonder why people have this need to blame God for everything when they act like they don't believe in Him in the first place? If a person doesnt believe He exists, why is it any big deal to them in the first place whether someone thanks Him or prays to Him or Praises Him.... obviously, it shouldnt affect them in any way unless they are really unsure if He is there or not

God doesn't have anything to do with the weather. That's why they can't take him to task for the storm coming. We are all victims of weather. Attributing the beginning and ending to God goes against scientific reason. It's just the forces of nature.

Positive thinking is a good thing, but so is seeing reality for what it is. Some Christians thank God for disasters because they believe that it is the beginning of the end... You know the rapture stuff.

People claim that the world is changing. That mankind has altered our environment so much that we are not referring to the idea as global warming. If this is true then mankind is at fault for these types of disasters just as we would be if we left the bath going and our house flooded. The reference is due to God being a merciful God. We ask Him to stay away from us. We do our own thing, and then when something goes wrong we say 'Why did God let that happen?’ God lets us know when we stuff up but He also helps us out when we ask. The real question is what were people praying to God for? Was it 10-15 inches of rain, or 10-15 inches of rain over the year? If we ask for 10-15 inches of rain, then it floods a river as it drains who's at fault, God for sending it or us for asking for it?

In human terms, what they were thankful for was that they were spared. Look, if we accept that we are only one tiny part of the whole creation, then maybe we come to realize that we are nothing more than a virus on earth and that the Earth as a living organism, that is only trying to get rid of us to heal itself. Just as our own body does when sick. We are parasites that take and give nothing back and pretty soon we will see the time of our demise, either because we had exhausted all resources or we killed the planet with our stupidity. The so called "disaters" that we experience know are nothing more than natural responses that our planet has to heal and restore the balance that originally the Creator put in place. Let that be God, Jehova, Jesus, or Alah or whatever you want to call him.

why do people think that we have the right to live in the first place? It is only by the Grace of God that any of us are here to start with . God , the Creator is just in His actions no matter what . so if He brings on the storm or ends the storm He is just in doing so. so i praise Him no matter what comes . the question is , what are we to learn from what He lets happen ? what is He trying to tell us when disaster comes? when we only see with our eyes we only see a limited view , open your heart and mind to God and look through His eyes and see the unseen. seek and follow the Truth and thing will become a lot clearer

Well, if you are asking a Christian! I would say that God has the reason of why disasters happen. I'm sorry about what had happened in your place. Christians thank GOD because it has stopped. He didn't gives us something more difficult to handle on our own! We believe God handles everything (He is in control) cause we have faith in Him!

It is just an expression. a misguided one, but just a phrase.
The bible foretells that god will bring to ruin those ruining the earth.

"Thank God the worst is over" - what is wrong with that!? with thanking it's over? should I understand you would have been pleased, if the damage would have continued to produce?

When THE LORD JESUS CHRIST was crucified and died on the cross, everyone saw it as a tragedy. But in the spirit which is the final analysis, it was a triumph and victory. Thus, everything even tragedies are the goodworks of THE LORD GOD. It is because if one suffers, the person partakes of the honor and glory to the sufferings of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. And if one was killed by another person, that person partakes of the honor and glory to the martyrdom of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD. Pls visit my website-http://groups.yahoo.com/group/THEGOODNEWSOFTHEKINGDOM/

Perhaps you did not get the news. Mankind is under God's wrath and curse - since the fall of Adam. To blame God for what we have done - is foolish.
