December cake . . . gotta be red velvet cake, with cream cheese frosting. Yummy! You can put red icing roses (with green icing leaves) on the cake if you want some color.

It never has to be white. My wedding cake was almond flavored or coconut flavored (depending on layer). The wedding I went to a week ago had a 5 flavor pound cake and spice cake (depending on layer--I wasnt a fan of the 5 flavor pound cake but a lot of people were).

Tons of people use chocolate cakes now--thats not even really unique and different for wedding cakes now.

Is it your anniversary? What is your favorite cake? If it is someone elses, just use their favorite. But for Christmas time I like either German Chocolate or Red Velvet. Rich, decadent tastes. But a Pumpkin or Spice cake would be nice too.

Food suggestions-do finger foods. Lil sandwiches, lil quiches. Something that people can grab up really easily. Just avoid turkey--being right after Thanksgiving people are probably turkeyed out. Chicken salad sandwiches are great. I went to a wedding shower just this past w/e and they had ham wrapped around an asparagus tip that everyone raved over and she said it was the easiest thing to make. She used canned asperagus! For December everyone is eatting so heavy--plan a party with light appetizers. Give them a break from the overeatting.

Just plan it like you would a christmas party, even if it's not christmas. My wedding was this past december, and to get somethings for the wedding we had to say it was for a christmas party. Find out what the wedding looked like and use that as a starting point. For the cake, be creative, who says it has to be white?
