So my parents have their 20th wedding anniversery coming up and I really want to do something special for them. But I'm completel stumped for ideas. The problem is I can't think of anything material that they would really like. Ideally I want to do something like pay to have them go away to a spa, or fly to greece or surprise them with a nice meal. The only problem there is that I'm a thouroughly broke University student, so money is a bit of an issue, and anyway its never a guarantee that they would both not be working on their anniversery, and would be willing/able to take the time off for a trip. If I were home I could do the whole thing of cooking them a really nice meal or something but I will be away at Uni when their real anniversary rolls around so no dice there. And I would fall back on the recourse of making them something but that stops being cute after about 13.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas at all, please share them, it's much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, I only have one suggestion.... I did this for my grandma and grandpa right before my grandpa died this past christmas( at least he made it to their 25th anniversary)
I took a picture of their wedding cake in to Walmart (yep walmart. lol) and had them duplicate it, and they did. It was so wonderful, My grandma was so impressed and amazed that I even thought of such a thing. It was the best part of her day.

I would make them a happy 20th anniversary digital photo frame. You can buy them cheap on the net, and i would get family and Friends to send you photos of your parents from over the last 20 years (including scanned picture of their wedding day, new born children, special occasions etc). Just download it onto the frame and there you have a thoughtful, memrabil and personal gift that is unque and family orientated.

Well, around here . . . the 25th anniversary is the big one. So for their 20th and since you are a student, I would just get them a card. Include a great letter about how much they mean to you.
Then . . . you have 5 years to save money to help them celebrate their 25th. For my parents' 25th, we had a big family party at a hotel to celebrate.
Good luck to you.

can you afford a card and a memory quilt or collage. maybe take some old pictures and have some of them transferred to a quilt. maybe some other keepsakes as well. go down memory lane a little bit. or maybe give a picture collage on an item of your choice. since you don't have a lot of money, just be creative. go to a local craft store and look around. I'm sure you'll find something nice. good luck

Ok well I would gather as many photos together as possible and go to www.shutterfly.com where you can make your own unique photo book. You can create a story in it and have a timeline of their marriage. It will be something very thoughtful and they are reasonably priced. The photobooks are done in a magazine style album and look awesome. Its something that they can keep and will really appreciate.

Maybe organize for some of their oldest friends to surprise them at their home and take them out for dinner. You could make bookings and everything and maybe just pay for a cake or beautiful bottle of wine for them to enjoy with their friends. I threw a surprise party for my parent's 25th anniversary, all their oldest friends came, I hired a venue and got them there under the pretence of going out for dinner. They loved it. I wore silver in honour of their silver anniversary.

If you want to have them get away for a trip, and they won't be able to, bring a bit of that place to them. You can do it by simply making a greek dish that you know they would enjoy, pick out a movie from there and make a whole night of it. You could also try remaking their honeymoon. That would be very special to them.

I like the idea of photo book, or album. Also, you could write a heartfelt letter to them, telling them how much their love and support has meant to you. Parents really love stuff like that!

send them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant or certificates for massages. It should cost around 100.00 Parents understand not having money for everything. I think they will understand.
