I saw it in a movie. In a bar fight someone wrapped his belt around his hand and went right up to the main troublemaker and THUMP!!!, hit a trouble maker in the back of the head, and then suddenly it was all over.
I work in a bar and want to try that. Do you think they will get knocked out? Will it protect my knuckles? What will happen next do you think?

Lol, the same thing will happen with or without the leather belt around your knuckle, the force behind the blow will still rely on your individual strength. If you couldn't knock a guy out without the belt, then chances are you can't knock him out with it around your hand either. All the leather belt will do is protect your knuckles from damage. Although with this knowledge, you will be more comfortable letting loose and not restrain yourself since you're confident your knuckles are protected. But if you have a big belt buckle positioned in front of your fist, then that's another story entirely. The buckle would likely cause a big bump or bruise and even bleeding.

Wrap Around Leather Belt

That's the silliest thing I've ever heard. Yeah, leather belts banned from marines because they use them to fight. Why not just issue a leather belt to all military personnel and save the world? Wrapping a belt may protect your hand against some injury.

The only thing it does is Protect your hand. It can also make a longer last bruise because of the hard leather rubbing on the skin(and a rash)but interms of power or will it make it easier to knock someone out the answer is no.

probably just used to protect untrained knuckles. Many martial arts (including boxing) do not train the knuckles for the punching they'll have to do. Styles that work with Makiwara (all karate... if you do not see a Makiwara in your dojo, you don't take Karate) and Wooden Dummies and Wall Bags (Both used in many forms of Kung Fu) do.

All it does is protect your hand and soften the blow.
If you want to knock a guy out, ball a fist around a roll of quarters.

you don't need the belt to "lay someone out". all the belt will do is protect your knuckles from getting scratched. it will NOT prevent you from breaking your hand. what will happen next? lawsuit perhaps.

Actually, it would probably make it less likely to knock the person out.

F * delta t = m * delta v

Since the belt increases the time over which the force is delivered, F (the force of the blow) will decrease.
